Let me be clear: everything says that the vast majority of the abuse runs the other way. That’s just not in doubt
EDITED AFTER I READ SOME LATER COMMENTS
I found a post at Kiwiblog where he has some comment and quotes from the longitudinal study people are mentioning in the comments, but their link to the actual paper is dead.
He does note that the worst type of violence (e.g. sever injury or murder) was almost always male on female though.
can’t even get a law passed that would prevent someone on the ‘terrorist no-fly’ list from buying a gun.
...was defeated by the Republicans
My friend's buddy who works in constitutional law in the US explained why it's not as simple as you make it sound.
The 'terrorist' list has no judicial oversight, once you are on it you cannot appeal the decision and have yourself removed. So having your rights (in this case to having a gun) removed by being on this list simply wasn't considered good/fair/constitutional, and likely never had a chance of being passed anyway. Or would probably have been successfully challenged if it had made it into law.
He's, according to him, a big anti-gun guy, but he was super pissed at them trying to make this law.
Apparently there might be hundreds of thousands of properties used as meth labs in New Zealand!
Have they updated their website RB? I see it saying it will be in the tens of thousands
I always liked Michael Lewis' Princeton speech where he makes the same point.
And how did it manage to get a Norwegian maple leaf on it rather than a Canadian ?
and it bears a stylized red maple leaf at its centre
The number of points on the leaf has no special significance;the number and arrangement of the points were chosen after wind tunnel tests showed the current design to be the least blurry of the various designs when tested under high wind conditions.
George Kay's interview with Bowie for Rip It Up in Christchurch in 1978, before the show. Pics by Laurence Aberhart.
I'm pleased to say the aberhart pic on the right survived, it sits on my bedroom wall. I hope the left hand one is living somewhere equally loved.
And here’s the video of one of Key’s DPS guards pushing Kelvin Davis after he told Key he was “gutless” in the foyer earlier.
I'm not seeing it like you are Russell. It appears that the guard is in motion, has to step around the guy with the beard and glasses who moved into his way and bumps into Kelvin. I think claiming that he pushed a guy who was criticising JK is a little overblown. But, meh.
There is also the aspect that roads are really designed for movement of people and goods, not for parking.
Not really, at least not for residential roads anyway. They build those roads with space enough for both parking and driving.
The idea that you should be able to leave your lump of iron on the (public) road is perhaps a little unreasonable.
Why? Especially given the road was built to do just that. If we go and visit my family what are we supposed to do, take turns circling the block while the other person pops inside for a bit?
There has to be a balance somewhere between “it’s our street, go away” and “we’re taking over your street”. At least from what I’ve read from the Skypath folks there is a real intent to reach a compromise.
Clearly, and that's the sensible thing to do. Much better than "tough"
