Nice piece on Dawn Raid last nite Damian. Although they fudged on how you run a "multi-million dollar" enterprise but forget to pay the IRD.
Was this of any help, or were you already on it?

  • Sopranos. The end. (SPOILERS, surely),

wow, this is crazy. I'm posting a comment without reading anything else (since I don't want to know how it ends!). Anyway, here's what HuffPo said:
The line to cancel HBO starts here. What a ridiculously disappointing end lacking in creativity to The Sopranos saga. But if you're one of those who found it perversely interesting, then don't bother to read on. Even if David Chase, who wrote and directed the final episode, was demonstrating the existential and endless loop of Tony's life or the moments before the hit that causes his death, it still robbed the audience of visual closure.

AAAARRRRRRRGGHHHHHHHH - I just read what happened while 'previewing'!! Am I the biggest dumbRs or what!!! (that's rhetorical, thankyou). This is my last post on PA, it has sucked my brain out - or at least fried it. I don't deserve to be here anymore. Bye Bye.

  • Cracker: See More on 3,

actually, what Hayden has brought up goes back to Damian's disparaging comments about Jude Dobson on Page 2 (and my reply of 'what will you be doing in 20 years time Damian?'). Huynh Cong Ut was much acclaimed with that photo he took in Vietnam. What's he 'reduced' to now? Taking paparazzi pics of Paris Hilton.
And no, I'm not equating Ms Dobson's beginnings with that of Huynh Cong Ut; I'm just pointing out that we all end up doing what we can to make ends meet. Hopefully Huynh Cong Ut is not sitting forlornly in a bar telling anyone who'll listen: "I won a Pulitzer once y'know"

  • Island Life: Sound as the pound,

Yeah, I'm starting to think lowering the rate (not raising it) is the answer too. But then the problem will be that with 6% mortgages everyone will run out and buy a property. If you're a low income family and then suddenly you can afford a house .... well, you'll grab one.

And I'd hate to be the property developer/seller with the last properties to sell when everyone has bought what they want. That's when the crash will start.

What pisses me off most is that the banks get their profits handed to them on a plate. It's like a casino - they can't lose. Which is why I bought bank share 24 months ago. I've done rather well ...

  • Cracker: See More on 3,

Wow, that's pretty weird. How can you judge what is the 'better' photo - they're from two disparate events. Each photo should stand on its own merits, and unarguably the first one has longevity. I doubt the second one will get much screentime in 35 years.

For me what is more interesting is the reaction from those commenting on your linked site.

Whatever it says, it’s not good…

can't argue with that. From the killing fields to Beverly Hills ...

it makes me sick to see Paris Hilton’s face contorted with the same despair and anguish as those kids in the first photo. She does not know what disaster is.

Yes she does, it's just that her disaster is more personal/self-centred. I have no doubt she had to go to jail but I don't doubt for a minute it's going to be devastating to her. That photo of her bawling her eyes out shows real raw emotion. It provides some hope that she may learn from this experience - maybe she won't drive drunk in the future?! We all know she can afford a driver.

  • Island Life: Sound as the pound,

Thank you! I thought I was the only one who remembered this. I've mentioned it in RB's blog so I won't repeat myself here. Suffice to say anyone who wants to know how these things work (fail) should wiki either Soros or Black Wednesday.
Currency speculators love this sort of thing, esp if they risking clients money.

  • Stories: Overseas Experience,

    Heheheheh

Well I do now! I loved the bit about Flash Gordon (1980) .... Lieutenant of Ming's Air Force. Saw the film but missed that bit!

And BTW - these gravatar pics are quite small. Which is why I picked one that doesn't require glasses.

  • Southerly: Late for What?,

if God existed he would surely strike dead a woman who names her offspring Padmé & Anakin

Come on DH, you've kept this up long enough - time to come clean. You made it up - used a bit of 'literary liscence' - surely no-one could seriously name their children that?

  • Stories: Overseas Experience,

And then … in walked my baby. We were never apart again.

I'm not having a go RB, but I'm always bemused how people can travel half way around the world and then still end up with a Kiwi (or worse, an Australian).

And Mr Grigg (still not having a go) is that a pic of you younger, with hair, or Ray Columbus? Can't quite tell.

By 2am we had got down to their god vs. my atheism - they didn’t win. I left at 3am to get back to my stayover.

So 81stcolumn, did you manage to take advantage of the Love bomb before things got ugly? I mean, how 'far' do they go with the 'love'? I've always wondered.
