  • Hard News: Go Us,

Craig - It is amazing the bullshit media can get away with writing if they keep it tight. Did you even read the rest of the article you quoted? "No in person interview with the head of the vetting team" which would not preclude

"Throughout this deliberative process of selecting a vice president, John McCain's political advisers each argued pro and con positions to the senator about each of the finalists for his consideration," he said. "The senator had an opportunity to reflect on all the pro arguments for each nominee and all of the con arguments for each nominee."

The search process started in the spring. McCain's vetting team was given a list of 20 names and Culvahouse's group prepared lengthy background books on each candidate, based primarily on a search of public records. Ultimately, the list of 20 was pared to six serious finalists, then to two, and finally to Palin. According to several campaign sources, Palin was on the list from the start.

All six were subjected to a lengthy background investigation that included a review of tax returns dating back seven years, a credit check, and a 70-item questionnaire that addressed nannies and household employees, infidelity, payment for sex, treatment for drug or alcohol abuse, and other personally intrusive subjects.

A knowledgeable official said Tuesday that the vetting team had hoped to run such a check but that FBI officials declined to do so because that type of inquiry is reserved for people nominated for senior administration jobs. The official also said the FBI was uncomfortable providing the information to a political campaign, rather than to government officials.

It kind of rebuts the whole last minute no vetting meme dont you think?

Russell - How many times are you going to jump the shark on Palins family. Your obsession with it is disturbing. the convention appearance is probably a rumour invented by one of your nasty litltle co conspiracists. The boy probably would have stayed away from the convention were it not for the intensity of the unwarranted attention.

  • Hard News: Go Us,

Seriously Sagie, you got basic comprehension issues.

ah read craigs response. there are comprehension issues but they are not mine or craigs.... do you need more hints :)

<QUOTE>you sound very uncomfortable SageNZ. Maybe you should do some cherry picking </quote>

mmmm cherries :) uncomfortable??? hell no I am having loads of fun winding you lot up.

The main axis in McCain’s worldview is not left-right. It’s public service versus narrow self-interest. Throughout his career, he has been drawn to those crusades that enabled him to launch frontal attacks on the concentrated powers of selfishness.....

...When McCain met Sarah Palin last February, he was meeting the rarest of creatures, an American politician who sees the world as he does. Like McCain, Palin does not seem to have an explicit governing philosophy. Her background is socially conservative, but she has not pushed that as governor of Alaska. She seems to find it easier to work with liberal Democrats than the mandarins in her own party.

the best understanding so far of McCains motivations except for not understanding that Reagan was easy for his people to work for. They understood his morals and governed accordingly. simple really. as far as mccain is concerned he has found a like mind. you lot really dont understand how simple it is because you are thinking in terms of how clinton, blair, clark et al would approach it. as I said before. It is about character. You have that and experience does not matter. Obama has demonstrated a grasp of oratory and playing the political game but he has voted way left in the senate and not demonstrated any ability to behave with personal integrity.

Alaska has a GDP of $41bn. Palin took on her own party and the oil giants and won in boht cases. She will be no 2 learning at the guidance of a master. Imagine her in 8 years after what she has achieved in the last 2.

Craig - I dont mean to wind you up. consider your politics. Neither candidate nor pairing is perfect. Who is. But look at voting records and outlook on trade and economics. protectionism and politics as usual from a new face or governance by a guy who has just re-written the whole goddam rulebook with his VP pick. You think he is going to have the nads to pay any attention to the wittering columnists or he will get on and do what is right.

I can imagine Obama bombing Iran cos the polls tell him he needs to be seen to be strong and I can imagine McCain doing a Sharon and negotiating a genuine peace with Iran.

  • Hard News: Go Us,

Craig - half of those dead presidents were assassinated. With Hillary's comments suggesting Obama might get shot and the stoners who tried to get to the dems convention is seems McCain and Obama share the risk of needing to rely on their no 2.

it is quite amusing observing the frenzy of comment from you and others. McCain. Unserious & cynical. Yeah right. Just ignore his whole life and political career

  • Hard News: Go Us,

link for above Palin vs Obama

It seems some are forgetting that Palin is only going for the number 2 position. The way Craig is writing he seems to think McCain will die on day 1.

So compare the no2 Rep who has nailed people from her own party from corruption with the actions of Obama and our very own helen clark

Its called integrity. Based on what is happening in NZ politics right now it would appear there are different standards operating for different sides of the political spectrum

  • Hard News: Go Us,

ah - at least the news cycle has moved on from fake pregnancy.

you know what i think. dont blog after gin. anyway. :)

call mccain unserious and cynical. jump on the panic shes not ready bandwagon. When the comparisons are done actually Palin as no 2 has as much experience as clinton had in 92

Palin is the number 2. McCain could have gone with a Biden clone. Biden is a man so conservative after his families fall from wealth that he owns less than Cullen. But McCain has something indefinable

McCain is an unreconstructed man of integrity and honour. Has anyone on this site heard of a candidate who would praise his opponent for breaking down barriers on the night of his acceptance. Spending limited campaign funds on putting out an ad like the one where he praises obama and says game on tomorrow.

I dislike Obama for his voting record. He is a charismatic preacher who is pressing all the right "believe" buttons. He has been close to corruption from the start of his path to power. His house was a sweetheart deal. For those of you who do believe, I pity you for the disillusion that will come if he wins. It would be historic

McCain met Palin a while ago and was impressed with her. He made sure she stayed in the race. she got through the vetting. but imho that did not really matter. McCain has always been outside the bullshit. That is why it has taken until this year for him to get the nomination. He is the republicans only chance. I think he sees in Palin the closest to his own views and character. Nothing else mattered. Instead of a clone he went for change. You call it being maverick or cynicism, I call it ensuring change.

  • Hard News: Go Us,

"After complaints by the Palin family in 2005 Mr Wooten was suspended briefly for shooting a moose illegally, and using a Taser gun on his 10-year-old stepson."

Undaunted, she held a meeting as governor three days
after giving birth. “I just put down the BlackBerrys and pick up the breast pump,” she said of her life as a working mother.

Left-wing websites such as the Daily Kos are leading the chorus of disapproval for now. “Having had two children at home at the age of four months, I know how much help they need even without unfortunate medical conditions,” said one tut-tutter.

Republican women, however, are delighted by Palin’s example. Kellyanne Conway, 41, a Republican pollster and mother of three, said, “I really feel mother knows best without the peanut gallery giving unsolicited advice. She strongly conveys to women today that you don’t have to choose between a successful career and motherhood. You do have to make sacrifices, but you can have it all.”

    JohnAmiria

If Palin was a Democrat there is no way the MSM would have ignored these rumours/questions, they would have been all over it.

    hahahahahahhahahahahahahha John Edwards.

Simon Grigg - check out the Palin facts link from my earlier. Perhaps you did not quite get the self referential aspects of the whole damn website.
