  • Speaker: The Ultimate Flip-Flop,

I see Fran has taken to announcing National policy

There are a number of areas ripe for the plucking: for instance the delivery of NZ Trade and Enterprise programmes offshore could be made contestable so that private sector operators could bid.

    Say what!!?

  • Hard News: Something odd and unresolved,

    Steven Joyce de-lurks

Woha. Perfect timing. I wonder if he will lead the charge against Winston Peters on the dodgy funding issues?

Talking about that, anyone remember this?

  • Hard News: Wild is the Weekend,

    I've long admired Nelson.

She had a flaky "Reuben Thorne" spell but seems to be over that now, thankfully.

I think the long term problem with the ABs has been the tendency of coaches to pick South Island skippers. This started with Tane Randell and we have never had a decent team play under an SI skipper. Particularly true when you look at WC campaigns.

That being said, Brad Thorn gets my vote.

  • Hard News: Wild is the Weekend,

Personally I don't think he's a 2nd five. He's a 13. His physical strength is more likely to be bust the line further out where he'll hit a 2nd five or centre rather than further in where there's more likely to be forwards tackling him.

Nonu has also become a better winger as a result of his time in the centre. It is a pleasure to see him out wide these days.

Still, 13 seems like a good compromise...

    Barry Obambi

The point at which Bremner lost the argument.

I just think some of the hype around is a bit ... overly optimistic.

"Rome - The Musical" closed at Circa last night. I was great. Congratulations to all involved. The finale has Octavius (Augustus) taking on the mantle of power, having bumped off all rivals, with the words:

"Yes we can! yes we can!"

  • Speaker: That Long And Winding Road,

You came back for a special one-off appearance to cheer us all up right?

Oops, I laughed at that Kyle comment too.

Underlining the helplessness we all feel.

Why feel helpless? Isn't that an excuse to care and do nothing? Just wondering.

That got me thinking...listen to this background hysteria (another Greek thing). It is unbelievable.

it means 'ignorance of the law is no excuse

And I guess "caveat emptor" applies to those providing the funding...

And perhaps we now know why New Zealand First (along with ACT) was the only party who opposed setting up a register of pecuniary interests for all MPs.

Quite so. Interesting about ACT's position on that given Hide's delegated role as attack dog.

A small tip to the Nats: to indicate how gravely you view the situation

Except, they don't, do they? I mean, is the 2005 election taught us anything it was the lying and wriggling that various political parties, not least National, went through to hide their funders and backers and circumvent electoral law.

That's why the EFA or something like it was required.

Now I see that a certain retiring MP (Mark Blumsky) is spending PS funds on "surveys" to tell us our concerns of the day should be. I am sure it is legal but it makes it hard for National to put too much emphasis on this line attack, surely?
