  • Hard News: There is History,

When I beheld Anne's masterpiece my first thought was that it was a parody written by a PA reader. But the Evil Scrum detail just puts her in a class of her own.

  • Hard News: There is History,

How's this for pure gold from Anne of Te Awamutu on the Herald's readers views?

No I am not concerned at all. It's just gives more money to the pharmaceutial companies. Now how would a face mask stop a flu virus, it's not passed by sneezing or sitting next to the person who has the dis-ease.

And the poor pigs and chickens get the blame, it's got noting to do with the poor animals. It the human beings of this world. You just have to look at how the world is at the moment. Surrounded in badness, corrupt governments and people, greed, wars, horrendous crimes, drugs, I can go on and on.

By letting badness take control throughout the world, it's only going to get worse.
It's a pity that it doesn?t seem to affect those ones that live bad lives.

Why is that! Bad ones are looked after by the evil scrum of this earth the devil himself and his band of henchmen, he is badness through and through. And he never gets the blame, it's always God.

And if you do live a good life, ask the Lord for His Protection. Not God. The Lord. And by the by, this is not religion, religion was created by man. No need to join a church or religious group. Just you, asking the Lord for his help. How easy is that, and it costs you absolutely nothing. FREE!

That's lovely, Graham. I don't often have Auckland Envy, but now is one of those times.

  • Busytown: I believe in miracles,

Jolisa, your coverage and cupcake photos have given me lots of vicarious enjoyment - thank you!
As for relative oppressions, there are still a few to go, including first openly atheist president. That will be a biggie.
What is the secret of your beautiful icing..?

  • Hard News: Prospects,

but I comfort myself with the (potentially naive) thought that whomever wins, they will do what they genuinely believe is best for New Zealand.

David, I take no comfort whatever at the prospect of Rodney Hide doing what he genuinely believes best for NZ.

  • Speaker: Memory Food,

    What a lovely story, Giovanni.
My grandmother's home range was similar to your Nonna - she didn't own a car and walked everywhere - although in later years she did travel out to New Zealand to see us and was also fond of Norway.
However, I'm not sure I want to keep the memory of northern English food of the mid 20th century alive! (apart from the Lancashire hot pot).

  • Hard News: Just marketing to the base,

Judith Collins .. had no proof, just that scowl she always seems to have on her holier than thou face.

It takes a lot of concentration, channelling Ruth Richardson..

Also, those 15 hours per week really need to be between 9am and 3pm - the whole thing about lone parents is that they are LONE and don't necessarily have much help with looking after kids outside of school hours.

  • Hard News: Just marketing to the base,

It's a daft policy in isolation. As I understand it, once their youngest child turns six, lone parents will be required under this National policy to find 15 hours a week part time work.
This is going to require a certain number of employers who are prepared to offer 15 hours work per week, on a very flexible basis and presumably keeping 14 weeks free for school holidays.
I'm lookiing forward to hear about the incentives that National are going to introduce, to enact these new family friendly policies in the work place. Must be a Tui billboard in there somewhere..

  • Southerly: Wedding Bells,

OMG. Kyle. Please tell me they still exist in the parental home somewhere, and that you are able to sell them to me.

Danielle, I'm happy to sell you my pet rock .. and I think I've still got my 'Hang in there, baby' kitten poster too.

As for the wedding in the cave - yeah, it was pretty memorable. It involved an hour-long walk along the beach - at low tide, of course - the more infirm guests arriving by helicopter, a large and magnificent sea-cave, and guests dressed as marine denizens. There was a jellyfish, several pirates and octopi and Rule Brittania. The broadcast spawning went on well into the night ..
