  • Field Theory: Black and White Stripes,

The Barbarians also have another quirk, if you play for them you need to bring your own socks.

I thought it was common knowledgel that the Barbarians are picked from the players wear their club socks?

In your photo you can see that Greg Somerville is wearing the Gloucester socks, Ben Blair is in his Cardiff Blues, although I can't pick Jerry's. An old Norths pair?

But for the record, I'm not sure, but I do think the combination between Smith and Nonu is better.

Yeah, but I bet you can't wait for a 10-12-13 of Carter, McAlister, Kahui, amirite?

OK, so you're in W'gton - do you prefer Kahui at centre over Conrad Smith?

Unfortunately, I think the point is now moot.

Au contraire, dude, I was at that. My English teacher was a) an old friend of Kevin's from our local theatre group, and b) gay, so oddly enough our class made the trip up.

Shit, small world. You weren't in the group of girls that passed notes to the tall, long-haired guy suggesting he go goth? That was a bit creepy. I suspect I was too young for your attention, however.

Okay, now see, that's hardly fair when in one's head Ares looks like this.

Man, bet you're upset that you missed the version of 'A Streetcar Named Desire' that my English class went to in 6th or 7th form. The bit where Kevin Smith, as Stanley, appeared on stage sans shirt recieved an ear-deafening greeting from the mostly teenaged-female audience.

    Ouch, my ears.

Good actor, but. Killer abs too.

  • Hard News: F**kin' Choice,

Argh! I missed Outrageous Fortune as our antenatal class got moved to a Tuesday because of the long weekend - where are the priorities people?!. I'll have to catch up with it later.

Hadyn: I think the money quote (From Russell?) was something about Thompson being so incredibly quick to the breakdown, and so utterly ineffective once he was there.

I gather he has worked hard on this. It'll be interesting to see him in play against the Wallabies or Boks. The South African team is looking very scary this year.

Edit: I should probably qualify that by saying that some players are picked on some amazing previous form. Ie: Smokin' Joe.

Kaino, however, has hardly had a stellar AB's career, nor a great S14 season.

Kyle: Agreed, and there's only so many times the selectors will want to get burned on that one, however it does seem that more than a couple of players have been picked on past form, rather than current.

It's waiting for some damaged investments to return to full fitness (So'oialo) while backing others (Leonard). It is wary of previous pitfalls (Lauaki) but it creates some interesting puzzles (who goes where in the loose forwards)

    Two questions:

    1) Why are there more players from the Blues than any other franchise, when their defense was so irredeemably shit?

    2) Bryn Evans.

I pick Messam to start at 8, with Latimer on the openside and one of Read/Thompson on the blind. That would put Kaino on the bench for impact, unless Henry et al decide to play him based on past experience. TBH, I wasn't hugely impressed with his season, and think it's his versatility that beat out Lauaki to the black jersey.
