  • The New World Order: A Visual Guide,

I just tuned into fox for a moment, one sign said "Obama is a Communist, liberal, socialist fascist". The guy obviously did not study politics at school.

Also love the subliminal messages on Fox, when they go live they use right now on top of the caption. Maybe I'm reading too much into this.

  • The New World Order: A Visual Guide,

Real world US debt is closer to 125% of GDP.

A leading economist in Australia argues GDP is a lot higher than that. I really hope Professor Keen is wrong about this.

  • The New World Order: A Visual Guide,

the NRA feel any sense of responsibility for the deaths of those cops last weekend.

The NRA attitude to anyone that runs an argument about gun control is to argue that guns save lives.

No- one needs an automatic weapon or a high-powered rifle for protection. And if you need one for hunting then you're certainly not a good shot.

  • Hard News: Problems,

re the Tokyo part of this article, i think Mr. Tan is just making shit up. possibly, the Singaporeans told him they would market their plots in Tokyo, but it seems extremely unlikely to me...for various reasons.

Why not bury the dead standing up.

  • Stories: Hotels,

I know this sounds kind of comical, but it really isn't.

We stayed in Varanasi, India where we shared the hotel floors with monkeys. Many of these monkeys were bigger than me and totally not scared by humans. The hotel managements answer to the problem was to give you a long stick to defend yourself with. I mean, how do you fight a monkey? Every time we left our room it was red alert.

  • Island Life: The Prime Minister will see…,

Banks have not suffered the same loss of capital as in Europe and USA, but foreign banks have left a multiplying credit problem on our soil. The tightening of bank credit is beginning to affect commercial property values. As that happens, it lifts bank losses and further restricts bank lending.
There will be probably more grief to come among a vast array of businesses both large and small. Banks will have to raise more capital to cover any losses that are ahead of them.
Initially lowering housing interest rates was a good news , now I'm wondering if it simply means higher bank charges for business borrowers and less jobs for the community.

  • Hard News: Top of the Populism,

Economic activity has held up however this won't last - contracts and prices for coal and iron ore are softening

In Australia, now that commodity prices have collapsed and the country is increasingly exposed to the world economic crisis, the China-boom enthusiasm appears to have been replaced with a concern in some circles at Chinese interest in buying into Australian resource companies.
The fact is is that modern Australian economy has been funded on foreign investment. It's going to be interesting to see how Rudd handles foreign investment applications by the Chinese.
