  • Field Theory: Sing when you're winning,

    One Laurie Sanchez,
    There's only Laurie Sanchez
    One Laurie Saaaaanchez!

    To the tune of 'Guantamera'

The fans ditties can also be quite ruthless. Shortly after the then-Rangers keeper Andy Goram was diagnosed with mild schizophrenia, the opposing fans at his very next game sang ...

    Two Andy Gorams,
    There's only two Andy Gorams,
    Two Andy Gooooorams

    Hayden; bible-bashing redneck.

Couldn't agree more. The best description I heard was (maybe Jonathon Agnew?) describing Hayden walking out to open the innings, and behaving in such an over-the-top alpha male psychological warfare way that he was all but cocking a leg on the stumps.

And Phil Gould. Can't stand his patronising presumption of automatic Australian NRL superiority and his certainty that nobody alive knows more about rugby league than he (or for that matter his dodo-like views on the sanctitude of Origin v International league).

And Stephen Jones. Yes I know its a tiresome one-man circus act designed to wind up kiwi's, but damn he can be effective at that sometimes.

    And Gary Neville ......

  • Hard News: Dial O for Obama,

Yes, well, it certainly does seem if the 'maverick' driver of the 'no-talk express' seems perfectly willing to expend all his personal capital of political honour and dignity on the chance for office.

The New Yorkers editors have outlined a very strong case for why Obama is the better choice

  • Field Theory: Beer and Loathing,

has urinals shaped like an open mouth with large red lips

Yes, that is well-dodgy. But it does remind me of some fine urinals I once experienced in a bar in Glasgow. A large perspex screen behind which was fitted 4 or 5 TV's, each featuring political talking heads of the day (Thatcher, Reagan, Gorbachev, it was circa early 90's). As succinct an anti-poltical message as I've seen.

  • Hard News: Weekend Warriors,

But it's OK, because I'm with Simon on this: McCain '08

This is why we need Chris Rattue to declare that Obama is a dead-cert and that McCain has no earthly chance. Then all will be fine!

  • Hard News: Awesome,

My rugby watching mates and I have a rule whereby whenever Dan Carter lines up a kick, we abuse the shit out of him, his kicking ability, the way he's wearing his hair, whatever we can think of to ensure we don't hex him.

heh - all we need now is for Chris Rattue to write an article about how Obama doesn't stand a chance against the invincible McCain, and we are home and hosed :)

BTW - on the subject of awesome, I've just been helping out at the Olympic teams arrival in Auckland, and Valerie Vili is one awesome looking athlete, who was clearly delighted with the reception. Mahe Drysdale was also amazing, spending literally hours with all of the kids who wanted photos taken with him and to talk with him - that man has a future in politics if he wants. In fact everyone showed a lot of patience and smiles. Lots of warm fuzzies all round.

  • Island Life: A boycott would do nothing,

You mean like TVNZ Sport Extra on Freeview? They should totally have something like that!

Doh! - so now I'm confused, for my future viewing pleasure (post-Olympics), should I be getting Freeview or MySky?
