    papering over the quacks...?
seems it boils down to different strokes for different folks. And as we were never issued with owner's manuals for the electrobiochemical bacterial colonies we have oversight of, we make do with whatever work arounds are individually effective... who knows what other system hacks and backdoors are in there, and yet to be discovered - blinkering would seem counter-intuitive,
an open mind is a healthy mind!

  • Hard News: Iggy told me,

    St Doug
Simon - I notice the Techtones Ripper stuff doesn't make it onto the Discogs list (any ideas why the artist for each recording isn't mentioned in the list, ya have to click thru from the title to find that out - seems pretty important info)
...and I'm pretty sure Doug was in the massed chorale of The Jessels legendary (read rare) Bobzilla/The worst Noel if not doing the recording as well - not to mention the odd backing vocal from the desk at Toy Love gigs... and... he turned the Windsor into the Mecca it was for local bands when he was booking it in the 80s (I hear it's open again as a gig - any reports?) ... and... helping bring virtually all living Velvet Underground members thru NZ at some point amongst many others... as well as helping many others into successful careers as mixers, sound techs and producers... a generous spirit...

    suitable fodder for canonisation indeed!

  • Hard News: In the Game,

Te Rugger - or not Te Rugger...?
Broadcast Rugby ceased being the inalienable property of the huddled masses when the Rugby©TM-powers-that-be adopted the corporate business model.

Perhaps like other Operas there could be sur- or sub-titles to aid translation - then we'd learn a few words and know what was actually said in the haka, too... :- )

It does seem it has fallen to Maori TV to pick up the mantle of Quality Cultural Public Broadcaster, perhaps TV1 & TV2 are being groomed for sale...
(True TV6 & 7 have their highlights, but I don't see them - due to lack of devices and bandwidth...)
But taking the money for rugby from Maori development coffers does seem to send a wrong signal

I am tending towards the Groucho Marx take on Television "I find television very educating. Every time somebody turns on the set, I go into the other room and read a book."

and now, in the immortal words of Tom Waits,
I'm gonna make like a hockey player
and get the puck out of here...

PS: out of interest was the "Scientology/Psychiatry Documentary in Maori?
and shouldn't someone tell John Travolta they're just cans he's holding...

  • Hard News: Postcard from Christchurch,

    a day in the life...
    re Joyce
    (hallelujah!)
    ... we are transported ...
like his sur-namesake (James) he may just like to make everything an epic... like Ulyssses
    could be worse though ...
had he been more like Stephen Dedalus
named after that Greek "cunning worker" and architect - Daedalus famous for his Cretan Labyrinths
and melting wax wings for Icarus
relax ... the future of Auckland (and NZ's) transport is in his hands

    keep on truckin'....

if that's not a misspelling of destiny
are you saying they are denser/thicker in the Capital?

    blows against the empire...?

    no Krakatau, no Islam

If the mountain will not come to Muhammad,
Muhammad will go to the mountain...?

    more adjusting to the inevitable...
    Krakatau venting... - history repeating?

re climate adjustment by Vulcan -
aren't Volcanoes great generators of CO2?
and smoke and uther particulate screening...
and the pacific has it's own superplume...
I wonder if it could even threaten Mururoa - ooops!
I also wonder if yellowstone is "doming" more at the moment as well...
