On the trains theme - unloved locomotives and rolling stock at the could-be Dorrigo rail museum - at that time a bone of contention between two groups.

I used to photograph theatre a lot, working at dress rehearsals and using my fastest 50mm lens and moving me to compensate for not being able to zoom. Took a tumble over the seats on a couple of occasions. Started out using the Kodak 1600 print film but switched to Fuji 800 when it came out as it was less oversensitive to red, and pushed better. I recall a nice shot of a twentyish Robyn Malcolm lit by one candlepower (must be somewhere in a moving box at present)

  • Hard News: #JohnDotBanks and all, in reply to Russell Brown,

I know this is local body rather than Government, but its still rather hypocritical from the paper that campaigned so hard for the repeal of the Electoral Finance Act. I thought the Herald's vision of democracy was that whoever had thew most money could influence the most voters.
I'm actually hankering for the days when electioneering TV time and media space was rationed and paid for by the state.

Are we including music which we'd assume 90% of people will hate, such as the Macarena? Back in the 1995, one of the anti-drug campaigns had a big bike, which 12 people had to pedal cooperatively. I was rigging pyro for classical sparks as it rode out of Hagley Park, playing the Macarena on its sound system. Two hours later it returned, still playing it! And a couple of months later I saw it trundling round Moray place in dunners, playing ... you guessed it! Surely enough to drive people to drugs rather than put them off!

This was never good - and its strong hook makes it bad earworm material:

Talking of earworms, Nothing Compares 2 U was mine the other day - totally out of the blue.

  • Hard News: Dirty deeds done by Digger?, in reply to Rich of Observationz,

Any content not available in a Te Reo translation doesn't qualify for copyright.

That would just see a lot of content (or a lot more than present) being denied to NZ. Remember that French is the majority language in a significant part of Canada - the status of Te Reo Māori is nothing like as strong.

  • Hard News: Back to mediocrity, in reply to Robert Fox,

Bob was up in the stand near halfway posting photos on facebook. As did fully half of my Christchurch FB friends.

Yeah but will your battery life last for the time you're on hold/trapped in the phone jail?
