  • Speaker: Judith Collins and the…, in reply to Rosemary McDonald,

Agreed. This isn't an either/or. Because the state has to care for prisoners and that costs money doesn't equate to that money being taken from disabled people. That line of argument is pretty much the one National have been spinning for the last eight years with regards to Social Security. There's money for both, it's just usually we're told there isn't.

The Serco and prisoner issue has taken a lot of the public space in the last seven months or so, obscuring other issues at times. But that's just the nature of the Fight Club videos, combined with Lotu-Iiga's description of Serco as 'excellent' which made this issue an expanding topic in the public consciousness.

He can't resign because he'd be 'the pig PM'.

He can't sue, because the court case would be hilarious and destructive.

He's just got to hope it goes away. Which it won't. Hah.

    Ahahahaha. Ahahaha. Ahahahhahahahahahahha.

The simplicity of it "Cameron fucked a pig" is what's dangerous. As an idea it'll stick, he'll be oinked at for the rest of his career. Because basically, it's pretty believable. His Bullingdon antics, the restaurant trashing and general poor baiting, combined with that photo, make it 'the sort of thing he'd do'.

He can't sue, because he'd need to be in court and have his uni days examined. So it sits there. Like a dead pigs head. On his career. Oink.

  • Hard News: Media Take Takes a Break,

Good to see some more coverage on the prisons issue, Russell. I too, have had a chat with those who know MECF well, and the place isn't designed well enough to afford understaffing. Prisons are places with high risks, but not to the point that you just succumb to them rather than attempt to mitigate them in every way possible. Glad to see the discussion about what prisons are for, whether or not the way they operate is what's best for society, and the voices of those who have been speaking without amplification being heard at the minute.

  • Speaker: Protesting private prisons,

And here’s Green Party co-leader Metiria Turei explaining exactly why privatising prisons is potentially a very bad idea. I mean, it’s been in the news after all. Except Metiria is talking FIVE YEARS AGO, before Serco were installed properly at Mt Eden and Wiri:

If you want a really corporatist indicator, Felix Marwick's tweet: https://twitter.com/felixmarwick/status/605843517944926209

"Health Minister says no legislation needed for social bonds policy. Initiative can be signed off by cabinet."

    It's not a cabinet, it's a bloody boardroom.
