  • Busytown: Holiday reading lust,

    Why sadly?

    Whoops - a word flow problem -
"sadly I think Manhire Street predates Bill..."
was the concept I was after - so I am not denigrating Jimbo - no way!
Immortality is where ya find it, by whatever means... and Bill Manhire should be up there with the greats!

  • Busytown: Holiday reading lust,

Somewhere in our family history is a link to Wordsworth...

where I grew up in Sydenham, Christchurch literature was a streetwise thang! - all the streets have names like: Wordsworth, Coleridge, Milton, Kipling, Tennyson, Longfellow, Carlyle, Byron, Defoe, Walpole, Ruskin, Barrie, etc...
We even now have a James K. Baxter Place! sadly
I think Manhire Street predates Bill, but future generations may not realise that :- )

If The Ad Show isn't packed with punters, you should be able to sty and watch that being recorded too.

... they pack 'em in like pigs, eh?

They're easily the best thing since the last best thing.

indeed, they do a fine job...
but I ain't getting rid of UHP on the strength of this ... - each to their own and all that...
diversity keeps us all happy and gives us cultural anchors and reference points

and yes I liked Dark Tower - Jody Lloyd is a good friend, I printed the covers and contents for his last CD loops of Love ....

    re NZ Hip Hop

What say we actually enjoy what they do?

My old Upper Hutt Posse tape still gets a lot of plays.... don't hear it on any radio stations these days - but then I mostly listen to National so not a wide sample :- )
...also on disc LOOP did great work to provide a mix of music / culture on their early productions, which were staples in my aural soundscape until they were stolen from a friend's car...

    world première of Moby-Dick

is this the one subtitled "We are Wailing"?
or the the one with Vera Lynn's "Whale meat again"?

Certainly people who already know about music and have money can go to record shops or find music online, but people who don't have those advantages need places where they can learn.

No worries in Chch, our enlightened council is bringing Classical music traditions to the great unwashed with a central city (?) - well Arts Centre based - Classical work camp, with duped fee-paying music students forced to "revitalise" the inner city with their joyous vibrations (thereby adding "vibrancy") - all while paying twice for parking (in town and at Ilam), extra travel costs and time-stress, exclusion from day-to-day campus life...
sadly it is all just to satisfy the vanity project of a gameshow host, a parochial architect, a corporate style property manager, and an almost blind bean counter - The Uni already holds concerts in the Arts Centre's perfectly grand Great Hall that not many people attend - what will change?

at the risk of appearing crass it was probably apt - after all a Tiger is a big pussy cat! maan!

MP for Christchurch Central, Opposition Spokesman on Broadcasting and Water

In his defence I understand his Father died (in Perth) earlier this month - so he may be tied up with that for a wee while - but back on deck soon...

  • Hard News: Auckland: where only one man votes,

Worse they created the central bus exchange with a KILL ZONE on Lichfield St

Wait till they move it west down Lichfield St to the proposed new Kathmandu shop site and then dig it below the swampy city's water table! For whatever bizarre reason...

Also looking forward to the proposed narrowing of Hereford St, with outside eating etc in what is effectively a central city wind tunnel - with the double parking problem that already exists there - it'll be another killzone crossed with a pinball machine... step right up Sideshow Bob...
