  • Hard News: Some Monday Things,

<quote>We know what that did for Maggie Thatcher's political career.<\quote>

Thatcher started her vendetta aginst local government with rate capping then moved on to the poll tax. Hopefully Hide's ridiculous politiacl career will end before he inflicts the sort of civil disaster that cost Thatcher hers.

  • Hard News: Pomp and Circumstance,

I've got a feeling that John Key's Big Tent will look more like Billy Smart's Big Top by the end of this parliament.

  • Hard News: And meanwhile ...,

John Key's comment that the elevation of Goff is hardly a sign of renewal

Unless Key appoints some of his bright new things to cabinet then his own team will smell about as fresh the proverbial week old snapper.

  • Hard News: Congratulations, Mr Key,

So did I, and then had to go wipe my hands on the shrink-wrapped wank-mags to feel clean again...

Lol - another classic Mr Ranapia.

  • Hard News: Congratulations, Mr Key,

*in the Cockney rhyming slang sense

Thats what I was thinking about when I mentioned the trap.

  • Hard News: Congratulations, Mr Key,

Call me a pessimist but the only pony we're likely to get from the new government is would also come with its own trap...

  • Hard News: Fun while the banking system collapses,

But you do feel for those people who will lose their jobs--it won't be those on the top salaries, obviously.

Indeed my Schadenfreude is tempered by the fact that its the punters who were fed the big fat lie about free money who've got the most to loose in this.

the ACT candidate still found it appropriate to ramble on about the glories of the free market solving everything

To coin an inappropriate, appropriate phrase, these guys will never learn that you cant put lipstick on a pig.

  • Hard News: Fun while the banking system collapses,

This would be hilarious if it wasn’t so effing serious. With the Freddie and Fannie bailout the worlds largest home owning democracy has effectively placed millions of mortgagees in state housing by proxy and with the AIG bailout they’ve just instituted national insurance. Did someone forget to tell the Bush administration that socialism was dead cos they've obviously become late converts?
How ironic that while citadels of global capitalism are toppling like ninepins, NZ is going vote in to power an 80’s yuppie intent on going to the flaky international money markets to borrow for tax cuts and sell ACC to anyone Merrill Lynch can find interested. Or should that be Merrill who?

  • Hard News: The out-of-control manchild…,

They aren't claiming victimhood and trying to remedy it by some sort of "fairness doctrine"

But conservatives who oppose the EFA will remedy its unfairness by scrapping it and replacing it with their own fairness doctrine when they gain power wont they? They are all victims of big government after all aren’t they? The disingenuous chippy loons on the right who constantly decry the nanny state and political correctness for victimising individuals are just fearful that there own privileged financial and social status is threatened by progressive politics. The naked self interest of corporate power is disguised in a populist libertarian vernacular that claims to represent the interest of all individuals but only serves to protect the interest established corporate power. Thank you Mr Gramsci?
