  • Hard News: The Bollard Book,

You want to get your money out while there's still some in the vault to get

But this is exactly what the Government guarantee does: provide liquidity to pay deposit holders in folded stuff. A bank's money is tied up in investments and loans. You won't see mortgage holders queue up to pay off their loan in full because the bank is in trouble (even though I suppose a bank could ask for its money back early - read the fine print in your mortgage and personal/business loan documents).

    Dairy products. Yes or no?

Unsweetened yoghurt. The recipient of the blowjob will experience a smooth and cooling effect. Beer has a similar effect but make sure you burp before you blow.
Why doesn't Wendyll Nissen discuss this in her food columns?

  • Speaker: My First Job,

As a member of the Ancient Guild of Knob Gobblers I would take issue with the recommendation not to eat anything for 24 hours prior to the engagement. A light refreshment of nutritious intake (a protein bar, say, or even a bar of dark chocolate) would not only get you in the mood but also ensure stamina for the task ahead.
And as Shakespeare surely knew too: practice makes perfect.

  • Hard News: The best blogger there never was,

You know, Gio, given the ACT Party's love of the Cato Institute, paraphrasing a classical Cato line about Rodney really is the bee's knees (to me).

Wrong Cato. The Cato Institute is named after Cato the Younger (and a dishy piece of statue he was). Unlike that of his great-granddaddy Cato the Elder who invented the "Carthago delenda est" brainfart.

That's not to say that the Cato Institute has not been moving towards the Elder's philosophy of carpet-bombing enemies all in the name of a neo-con revolution.

I thought America was born out of "anti-colonial' sentiments, though I may have completely missed the point of the American Revolution.

The American Revolution was one of those historical mistakes we still have to live with. Imagine if the colonies had stayed as they were. Colonies. The "USA" would now have been like..... Canada.

  • Hard News: This is what we have to work with,

The best Airport-to-City public transport experience I have had is in Hong Kong: 35km in 24mins for NZ$18.50 return. It was possible to spend an agreeable day on Hong Kong Island when on a 7 hour flight transfer. Try doing that in Auckland!

  • Hard News: Long will be the lunches,

I'm surprised no-one else has brought up the issue of why the anti-MMP lobby is keeping so quiet about the Australian election result and the fact that the barely proportional Alternative Vote electoral system has delivered such a dogs breakfast of an election result.

If Australia had a pure proportional system (i.e. percentage of vote reflects percentage of seats) the current outcome would have been a hung parliament too. Nothing wrong with that. But it would have represented Australians better (e.g. Greens should have got 17 seats).

    Calculations here

  • Hard News: Changes and appointments,

As much as I treasure TVNZ 6 & 7, I am continuously disappointed by the large number of folk who don't watch them/can't receive them/don't know about them.

TVNZ 6 ratings got a boost to over 1m a month when Sky TV moved it to channel 016. TVNZ remained the same at a low level on channel 097. Only thinking people go above the Sky music channels, obviously.
I'm pretty cool with a RNZ/TVNZ merger, if it means RNZ journalists get the resources and TVNZ journalists get the brainpower. A mini-BBC, as it were.

Which is perfectly understandable, and I understand the fury of their rhetoric, but it's hard to see how it might be achieved.

    I'd send in H2.
