Henceforth to be known as the Garrett Independent Party or GIP. How appropriate. On the other hand, today's papers are saying that the Davester is going to officially resign from Parliament tomorrow...

I'm not sure that the prehensile populist vote is all that large these days. It always had troubles within the ACT caucus, as there's always been a hardline New Right faction that was strongly antagonistic to the populist sideshow antics of Prebble, Hide, Mad Moo Newman, Stephen Franks and Garrett. I suspect that the current neutralisation of Garrett may be retaliation for the dumping of Heather Roy from that ACT faction.

ACT is a mad dog's breakfast. It'd be interesting to poll Epsom at the electorate level and find out what they really think of their erstwhile elected representative. I'm surprised TVNZ and TV3 haven't decided on that course of action...

And I see the evils of Teletubbitry are fodder for the fulminations of the foolish once again... Never mind, I've directed Russell to the guilty URL, so it may be regurgitated in a future column. Sorry, Geoff.

I'm not apologising for the ALP, but I'm not sure the Liberals are in any shape to govern either. Again, it may take time to dump Abbott, but they probably won't go into the next election with him as Liberal leader.

Erm, blue-hued namesake, might I point out that Abbott only won the Liberal leadership by one vote in the first place, that there was an almighty cockup when it came to disclosure of costings for their policies, and that he's an obvious scientific illiterate when it comes to climate change and telecommunications policies..?

And don't forget, while NSW and Qld decided to play sillybuggers, Victoria turned off the Coalition this time round... and it is the most populous state.

Yes, but come on, CR...Tony Abbott is probably a goner after this, and will be replaced by someone more palatable to the electorate. And there already seems to be friction over the Libs deputy leadership. Snatching defeat from the jaws of near-victory, anyone?

    BTW, Russell?
I hope the above means the candidates will get a grilling on their responses to the FF survey. Apparently, there's also a (Herald) newspaper ad pdf on the VYV website now as well...

And at some point, closer to Decision 2011, I'd love to be on one end of a mike pointed at McCoskrie and asking him some searching questions about real family needs as opposed to FF's version of them...
