  • Speaker: Copyright Must Change,

The Herald begins its article like this:

"The manager of top singer-songwriter Bic Runga says eight of his "high-profile" and "major" New Zealand artists have been forced to take second jobs as illegal digital downloads kill the music industry."

and places that paragraph next to a photo of Bic.

If Bic Runga isn't 'major' and 'high-profile' then who is?

  • Cracker: Titular Titilation,

Bob Jones is still a self-absorbed cantankerous old scroat, who only gets any airtime at all because the media know he'll say something shocking – he's like a geriatric Howard Stern

I guess he'll be first on the new Holmes show then? </cheap shot>

Just to 'distinguish', I will be Lord Christie of Pittodrie.

But,Wait! there's more! Bryan, we are getting a cycleway!

I struggle to see why having a cycleway up and down the country is not a freaking fantastic thing. Really.

If you want to pick on National for 'stuff', be my guest. But please, leave the cycleway alone, I've been hankering for something like this for years. Having seen the idea in operation on many other countries (and Otago) I can vouch for its goodness.

  • Hard News: Top of the Populism,

On a semi-related note, does the specter of private prisons mildly worry anyone else? I'm filing them in my "what could possibly go wrong" basket.

Nothing, so long as you keep paying judges to put kids inside and keep the cells full. Perfectly sensible business model.

    Why do you ask?

  • Speaker: Memorandum To: Citizens of NZ,

But we're never going to do it while these beat-ups carry on.

For this we can partly blame the party of small government, Act. Hide's 'perk busting" type antics have had the counter intuitive affect of making government hugely risk averse. I agree with the comments about being accountable, but when this tips into stagnation and fear you know something is wrong.

    Rich says:

I guess one option if (like me) you dislike networking with a passion is to find somebody who enjoys schmoozing to front. That's what I did last time.

Rod has already described his stutter and how that was a barrier. I find networking and speaking in public difficult and am still, at best, barely competent. We (Catalyst) avoiding doing any of this sort of thing for years.

However, find audiences that you can relate to and start talking. It has to be done. No-one else is speaking for you. No-one can really tell your story better than you can.

Last year the government CIO told us he didn't think NZ firms had the capacity to deliver to the governments IT needs. I think he was wrong. But it is only by those of us who are at the delivery end of things telling our stories as often as we can that people will recognise us and give the credit where it is due.

In short, get out, and shout.

I certainly won't be watching the racist twat.

Yep. If folks had any credibility they would simply refuse to appear on his shows. I know I don't watch TV but just *knowing* he is back is a symptom of something terribly wrong.

Surely if you're going to be missionaries there should be some kind of hardship involved?

Can I be the first to say - well, they have to live in Christchurch, don't they?
