  • Speaker: It's On,

if Kellerher got injured I'd be comfortable with Leonard starting.

I'm not worried so much about ability, but big game experience in a crucial position

  • Speaker: It's On,

Andy Ellis will be called on for some significant game time late in the tournament

Sitting on my desk is the match programme from th 1999 semi final against France. It lists the three half backs as Marshall (34 caps), Kelleher (3 caps) and Rhys Duggan (uncapped). My biggest concern when Weepu got dumped was the lack of depth we have at halfback in this squad, and the rest of your predictions worry me greatly too! (esp number 5!)

FWIW, I'd always go into bat for Marshall as a player, but when he opens his gob it can be as embarrassing as watching Kelleher sing the national anthem.

  • Speaker: It's On,

I make about six interesting games in the group stages, unfortunately three are in the France/Argentina/Ireland group (go the Argies).

    Scotland v Italy
    England v SA
    Wales v Australia

Would like to think Samoa could knock over the Poms & Fiji could beat the Welsh, but I wouldn't bet the house on it.

It's a stretch but on the day of the final, A Rush & A Push & the Land (Cup) Is Ours (enough of the Smiths, pleeeese!)

  • Hard News: Geeky Thursday again,

Pity there was never a McBadge for garbage compaction, that was seriously my favourite job there.

Made me laugh out loud :)

I didn't realise McD's made their products in-house, I'd always assumed they shipped the burgers in frozen, rather than recycled them at the, ahem, restaurant.

  • Hard News: Geeky Thursday again,

A friend of mine who worked in a branch of the CD and DVD Store used to order the music she liked and play it, because there was nothing in stock she could bear.

Having done my time in record shops, and had to play some truly dire shit, you learn to just switch off and let the music become white noise. The stuff that's half good you don't want to play because you associate it with work (I can't do REM any more, mostly for that reason).

  • Hard News: Geeky Thursday again,

I would imagine that most music in Starbucks would be of the Norah Jones variety. I thought the point of having an iPod was to block out the white noise with music of your own choosing.

I feel fairly confident that I won't walk into Starbucks and utter the phrase "ooh, I didn't realise there was a new godspeed you black emperor album out...."

  • Hard News: Geeky Thursday again,

    International:

Next thing you know we'll have websites where people too lazy dial talkback radio can spiel off their thought for the day and feel self important that their world view has been 'heard'.

    The future is now: http://www.youthink.co.nz/

As advertised on Radio Sport where talkback rarely rises above how great/badly the ABs/Warriors/Knights etc are doing and whether Henry/Cleary/Herbert etc know what they are doing.

  • Hard News: The meaning of a Banana,

When my son was born in England my wife listed my race as "white - other" and wrote pakeha in the box. Lord knows what they thought of that in the statistics office.

I think I just used to refer to myself as white - british whenever the form asked the question.

  • Hard News: The Big Stereo Bundle,

    Nice clip of Iggy.

By happy coincidence I just got given a copy of Open Up & Bleed the same week I downloaded Metallic KO from eMusic.

If the Stooges at last years's BDO was anything to go by, Iggy has been throwing those shapes on stage for nearly 40 years!

This is a bit long but I found it a few years ago after buying a Saints comp in Oxford Street HMV after a recommendation from a Mr R. Brown following a D4 gig.
