Yeah, it's been well and truly rigged - and can be the only reason we got variations of one choice. All very cleverly planned by a government who doesn't believe in choice.

Better but I think the fact that this is an STV vote is your bigger problem. In other words, looks like Key Inc. has spoiled your spoiler.

So then the hypnoflag as a spoiler mechanism really has no chance of winning under STV - if I read that correctly. No doubt that's exactly why we got three ferns in the shortlist.

This whole flag shemozzle is damaging the democratic process.

I'm trying to figure out whether the first referendum is an STV vote? The Wiki entry refers to a ranking of the four designs but the official government website doesn't go into any explanation of that.

But if it is STV, then would a Hypnoflag supporter be advised to just rank that design with a number 1 and no ranking after that? Point is, if it is an STV vote, then one can only assume all 'fern' supporters will rank the ferns 1, 2 and 3 (with hypno as 4) and as one fern drops out in any one round, obviously the next fern will be allocated all the secondary votes from fern supporters next ranking, and so on until it's a fern - no matter what.

The original Koru Flag was submitted by someone. It is not clear that this is the copyright holder though.

But given it remained in the competition (whereas the other was removed for copyright breach) I would assume the Foundation did not object. Shocking really that the Panel chose to ignore it but pick a breach of copyright when selecting that top 40. Very suspect.

    Never catch on, that.

Exactly - where nepotism rules - paying professionals to do professional work is an antiquated idea.

Do we have any idea what the panel of mates each got paid for their participation in this process?

The problem for the Foundation wasn’t that they didn’t approve of the Hundertwasser Flag being considered

Agree - it was a distasteful knockoff. But why then didn't they submit his design I wonder?

Because if we don’t get our acts together, the coalition of the bland will sure as hell win this one by default.

Yeah, I'm going to get in behind whatever 'spolier' option turns out to look to have the most support. I agree that what is needed is for all these 'spoilers' to get together and launch one concerted effort/plan.
