Speaker: Let's talk about class, in reply to
Labour made no meaningful change in government. Both governments were warned there was a problem.
Didn't Labour initiate a review far too late in their term whose recommendations the Nats ignored when they came into office?

I'll get this rolling. I fit into A to E, and I guess my involvement in policy work is equivalent to F.
I've been disabled since I was young, but I never really came to grips with that side of my life until I had a disabled partner and started working on disability activism and policy.
This has certainly changed the way I see the world. I've always been attracted to the big picture, and helping to connect people with knowledge. So many rich stories and possiblities that I believe most people do not see yet. Untapped wisdom and perspectives and heart.
More practically, it has also helped me be more forgiving of my own personal limitations, bolder about challenging silly barriers, and acknowledging of my strengths.

Speaker: Let's talk about class, in reply to
we are not talking about class
We are however talking about poverty and inequality. Maybe those terms resonate more in this country now?

Some may have felt that financial compensation was worth it
I don't think any of the families were asking for it. Recall how they reacted to the trade-off that the court and insurers facilitated to secure Whittall walking scot-free.

OnPoint: Budget 2014: Yeah okay., in reply to
Ta. Reading since then, apparently it's a great counter-example.
The only reason for this latest 'loan' is to be able to claim there's a Budget "surplus" this year.
The other one's actually a loan. Unlike how Wellington paid for their equivalent new trains.

Thank you. They do. I still wish I'd caught your Foo mihi that year.

I've spent the day with my family and some dear sailing friends of my stepfather consigning his ashes to his beloved sea. We discussed many things, including autism, without rancour. I feel sad (and angry) when people play petty games with something so profound in many of our lives.
If you do not know about something, it's OK to listen. Show some respect for those who do.
Cheers to all the good listeners and speakers who have enriched my life. My stepdad was one of the best.

OnPoint: Budget 2014: Yeah okay., in reply to
practical disability issues
You seem to mean MoH-funded personal support services? Most disabled people never need to use those, though I appreciate how crucial and poorly-designed the current system for them is.The practicalities of disability though are broader, hence having to look in many places in the Budget to find the expenditures.
a mass walkout if they get dismissed, then throw the damn Strategy and UNCRPD at their sorry heads.
Do you think those managers actually make the decisions you want to change? Or that we have enough power to *make* them comply with some policies our governments have signed up to? Don't you think it would have been done by now?
You're really not convincing me you understand how social change and politics works. Perhaps we can pick this up in a different conversation, though. This one is meant to be about the Budget, after all.
