As in, if I turn up at 7pm, will I be brusquely turned away at the door as the keynote has already started?

No, but you're one off those people given to flashy entrances I may be obliged to glare at you like a Wodehouse aunt and snap my braces aggressively. :)

Yup. Even the mere association of it was what did for Pansy Wong.

And a certain Philip Field isn't in prison for a fraction too much friction on a ministerial credit card. So perhaps we've had our fun, and should be a little careful about weaving elaborate scenarios about how the Prime Minister is corrupt unless we have some actual evidence.

Mine includes a horribly lame and embarrasing present from some over-sensitive relation whose feelings you don’t want to hurt. So, you don’t slap it on Trade Me with a dollar reserve on Boxing Day morning.

Nah… That’s nowhere near as much fun as the worse branding exercise since Dior through it a good idea to have a Jewish celebrity on the ads for their lucrative perfume lines while the head designer turns into the Mel Gibson of haute couture. Then again, I generally point and laugh at men wearing bangles so what do I know?

Rebuild the cbd real fast says the head of the large Ballantynes department store – and make decisions in the next few weeks.

I know this is easy to say at the other end of the country, but wouldn’t rebuilding the CBD “real fast” cause more problems than it solved -- not least for businesses like Ballantynes that need structural repairs and services restored properly? I can understand where he’s coming from, and he’s not being totally unreasonable, but as Emma has said it’s basic infrastructure that’s really critical. That's a wee bit more complex than digging trenches, dropping in some wires and shit then covering it up.

One moment... Acceptable as long as you don't picture the stuff with chunks of fruits.

    Thanks you, Lucy.

Tapestry? How la-de-dah. :) Damn you for being the voice of reason, but the methodology of ratings agencies makes my brain cry. Any insight appreciated.

Which prompts the question, how come borrowing that would have utterly buggered our economy a week ago, is now perfectly acceptable? How can both be true and responsible?

With all due and sincere respect to Tim, perhaps he’d like to give Emma some time to hide all her sharps then drop in for a cup of tea. I’m certainly feeling a tad stabby.

FFS, I still think Western economies have a serious and unsustainable debt habit that we can’t decently keep pushing off to our children but it’s even more irresponsible (and unspeakably callous) to let Christchurch die on the altar of ideological purity. Sorry for ranting, but I’m still too raw to get fully into the spirit of this kind of thought experiment.

And I’m thinking, sentiment aside, that a City that has suffered more than 5 major earthquakes in its 150 year history is in the wrong place.

If you really want to take that to the reductio ad absurdum, the billions of human beings living at the rim of the Pacific basin are “in the wrong place”. Problem is, darling, I don't have anywhere else to go, so I'm staying focused on having the very best civil defence network, building standards and all the other shit that actually saves lives.
