You can't filter what's not there.

I agree. But it doesn't prove how it got there.

  • Hard News: Vision and dumbassery,

Isn't XKeyscore basically the search interface, not the collection one? I believe that's what people here are saying. Being able to filter a search doesn't prove where the content was collected.

I personally believe at least some of it was collected here, but that's not enough to nail the slippery Key when he claims it's just from targeted not mass 'surveillance' (which in spy circles means content spying not metadata spying, we're told). We need someone really sharp on these things to sit him down and keep at him until they get past the deliberate evasiveness and lying.

I wonder exactly who is sitting on the rest of the whaledumps?

the media outlets being sued in Slater's name, that's who.

Hager mentioned other non-personal material he had seen but left with Rawshark for other journos to get. This included the Hotchin material. It seems unlikely that there wouldn't be other angles and more detail than Hager could fit in his book.

As mentioned previously, our craven media seem cowed into submission by the prospect of influencing the ongoing legal action against them paid for by someone sympathetic to the interests of the govt and/or Slater.

there are more than two parties in the election, even for media determined to report on personalities rather than other factors like policy or coalition prospects.

  • Hard News: Dirty Politics,

Apparently the PM’s story has shifted again this morning (yet his faithful defenders at the Harold descibe that fact as an accusation).

Mr Key has said the GCSB was working on a business study for a form of “mass cyber protection” following cyber attacks on several large New Zealand companies. Mr Key had told them it was too broad a net. However, this morning he indicated it had gone ahead on a limited capacity.

“I said I think it’s too broad .. so in the end I said let’s set it at a much more narrow level.”

He denied that was mass surveillance.

You really think we haven’t been discussing the substance of this? Several recent threads, many hundreds of comments, well over 100k pageviews. And informed discussion since before Snowden.
