    Happy now, Craig?

Am I supposed to be happy that RNZ couldn't get a basic COI disclosure right from the start? No, I'm not. Anyway, I've got something a little more useful to do.

And one more thing, Stephen, I expect a little more from RNZ’s flagship news/current affairs shows than the lame magazine fluff after lunch. I'm not talking about the media ethics equivalent of the Higgs bosun here, just disclosure 101.

After the way Jim Mora let Farrar go unchecked yesterday afternoon, I feel the Left is entitled to a pass on that one.

I think I can be atypically terse on this: No.

If Curia is writing the costings of National policies (prominently displayed on their website) and David Farrar is on a panel discussion of those policies without a very full disclosure at the top of the interview, I'll be calling bullshit too.

    M'kay?

Currently listening to Ganesh Nana on Nine to Noon. Did I miss the disclosure of BERL's blatant conflict of interest in any discussion of this policy?

I also am going 'why' a bit with the changes in income tax. Given, as you're pointing out, it doesn't actually seem to do much to the government's books all up, why is it there?

My (non-trolly) concern is that with all due respect to BERL, the income modeling is also based on very long-term projections. I think we've all learned to take anything coming out of Treasury with a pound of salt, shouldn't we do the same with a private company that I assume didn't do this work for Labour as a public service.

  • Hard News: Angry and thrilled about Arie, in reply to Russell Brown,

I think in repeatedly referring the case back to police with the implication that they reconsider diversion, the judiciary has made its view pretty clear.

And appropriately. As I said up-thread, I don’t follow Christchurch court reports religiously but a quick Google of "Judge John Strettell" hardly reveals a McVicar-enraging criminal coddler. Even as a matter of simple pragmatism, couldn’t someone have taken the bloody hint?

  • OnPoint: Why Rightwingers Should Support…,

    Hum...

    Collectables

Collectables, such as jewellery, antiques, artwork, rare folios or stamp collections and the like will be exempt from the CGT.

A CGT that included collectables would be intrusive, result in high compliance costs, and would not raise significant revenue.

Why shouldn't right-wing rich-pricks support this? The yacht ("personal use asset", don'cha know?), mother's pearls and the McCahons are safe from the filthy taxman!

Agreed. Robertson has a longstanding investment in the disability sector. Cosgrove asking the same question would simply look political and I would not see it as some sort of welching if he didn’t ask the question. I’d actually prefer Robertson doing it.

I don't entirely agree with you there - it's hardly out of left field to have a question posed to the Police Minister about Police conduct by Labour's "law and order" spokesman rather than the Health one. Still, I think we can all agree that it would have been nice if someone in Labour had bestirred themselves.

It simply bears noting that his thinking was not that of a looter.

Yes. And, Chris, is it OK and not a sign of incipient police state neo-fascism if I still find contemptible shit like (for example) people in post-Katrina New Orleans returning home to find their houses systematically stripped of alcohol, jewellery, prescription drugs with re-sale value etc.?

  • Hard News: Angry and thrilled about Arie, in reply to Rob Stowell,

Emotions were running high. But strong support for illegal, immoral and indefensible Police bashings? I hope we are not so far gone.

Not what Sacha was saying, to be fair. Say "looters" to me, and my initial response is still "How can you convert this Olympic-sized swimming pool into a deep fryer". But while what Arie did was bloody foolish - and endangered his life, his partner's and others -- he's hardly a human vulture picking through the detritus of death and human misery for fun and profit.
