  • Hard News: The perils of political confidence, in reply to DexterX,

The fall out from the billboard vandalism has been a love fest between Key and Norman – it looks to me like they were courting one another -

Or, you know, perhaps Norman was sincerely mortified and embarrassed when his EA's partner basically outed himself, acted like a grown-up and Key accepted it in the same spirit? I know it's easy to see the dread hand of Darth Joyce/Crosby Textor/the lesbian-unionist cabal running the Labour Party/whatever behind everything. Sometimes, things are exactly what they appear to be. Really.

So, Craig. Not one of your bestest buddies then?.

Not an affectionate "blow me" with breakfast and a more or less sincere promise to call afterwards. Not at all.

The fact is the number of old people is growing, a fact that JK ignores at his peril.

Which does not straight-line correlate to ignorant racist douche-canoes inexplicably bewitched by the skeevy gigolo of New Zealand politics. Yes, Winston, I despise every atom of your hateful, hypocritical lying gutter trash being. And that contempt is fed by having first-hand how you use and abuse people to feed your ego. Blow me.

Nah, quite. This'll be one they cooked up from ingredients already to hand.

And still bloody ugly. Yeah, Ambrose does have a past that could most politely be described as "colourful' but the headline promised a lot more - and uglier - than it delivered. Compared to many, he's downright square. I don't know how the fine moral paragons at Stuff would have handled the likes of Tom Driberg - who probably spent more time on his knees sucking off rough trade in public lavs (and trying it on with comely left-leaning literary chaps like Martin Amis and Christopher Hitchens) than he ever did at work on the Daily Express

And just when you think today’s three-ring gimp show can’t get any worse… Stuff runs a hit job on Bradley Ambrose – and I’m sure it’s pure coincidence that APN is Fairfax New Zealand’s direct competitor in the Sunday weekly market. (And before anyone starts waxing conspiratorial, I do not feel the presence of Darth Joyce. Smells like a good old-fashioned media sledge-fight to me. Ambrose was just unlucky enough to be a good hook.)

Oh heaven forbid, don't you go bringing sideshow Bob into the realm. ;)

Madame, I would not be so cruel - at least not without a dungeon and cash on the nail.

No, Goff could have just said “this is a side-show and I’d rather talk about Real Issues that affect Hardworking Ordinary New Zealanders” and not doing exactly what he claims Key is doing. But I guess that would require some good judgement and strategic nous; two qualities I’ve seen precious little evidence of from that quarter.

When the messenger is talking a load of crap, it's also entirely appropriate. Perhaps we can leave the New Zealand Police Force to make their own assessment of what constitutes an appropriate use of their time?

I think when you're accusing National of "politicising" the Police (which has been the running headline on National Radio), it would be nice if you weren't quite so open to the same charge. And not for the first time, I find myself wondering why Goff (or his advisors) seem incapable of going for anything but the most silly attack line on offer.

Is everybody off their tits on hash tea today?
