Congrats! That's great news :-) How can I find Radio Chick? I believe I have heard of Kiwiblog once or twice before ;-)
I think an NZ blog awards thingie would be good and I seem to recall some initial discussions about it a few years ago, or maybe I was just talking to myself. I don't have the technical know-how, but I'm keen as beans to help out with other stuff if I can.
This Neil Finn stuff is a bit weird. I don't know a lot about the NZ music industry (or indeed music) but I find this current kerfuffle very strange indeed - did Helen and Neil have a falling out about something? Has he been approached by National to be parachuted into a high list place next year? I'm a bit unsure as to what his motivation is.

I seem to have come to this a little late - I've been running a seminar all day and just read through all the back and forth finally finishing now.
Deborah - you were right to call Craig originally, I would have backed you up 110% (as they say in the All Blacks) had I been here. Sorry I wasn't. I get very fed-up with that pallaver, as you may have picked up from my comments in the post of mine you linked to (thanks!).
I think you were also right to keep calling him on his behaviour afterwards, as were others.
One thing I wonder if it's worth considering. Those of us who have been commenting on pol blogs since before PA System was around do often have a tendency to be more slap-down than necessary, partly because that is the environment "out there" (sadly). I'm not going to pretend to speak for Craig, but I know that's the case for me, and often I start writing something and then remember I'm on PA and delete it all and start again. It's really good that the standards are higher here and long may they be maintained.
Anyway, back to the silliness - apparently I am Sister Katana of Loving Kindness, although I've always preferred to be known as Most High Mind-Boggler Span.

Manakura, I have on rare occasions emailed a few like-minded people in hope they will comment on particular bad threads, and sometimes it works. But I kind of feel like it's cheating. Not sure why.
On the cats vs dogs issue - I can see downsides in both. Cats would be all "yeah, I'm busy, what do you think your hands are for?" but dogs would probably be total over-promise-ers. I think donkeys would be much better.

NoIm, you'll be pleased to know that the electrician was only a little late (and he rang to tell me he would be) and was fabulous. Very nice, very competent, and did a good job. Except he forgot to turn the power back on to the lights, but I just rang him and he said he'd come right back and do it and was v apologetic. Very impressed.
The plumber was almost an hour late, didn't call, did arrive and say they had to go get the right part (but to be fair, he did bring up another part that would clearly have done the job, had it been long enough), which they did. Took their time coming back, but then did a good job, tidied up, and left, with little impact on me puttering around the house and doing other stuff.
We'll see how I feel after I get the bills ;-)

Manakura, on the issue of raising the lack of women, I've been doing this out there on the other nz pol blogs for quite some time now and doing so buys a whole world of trouble most times. In the last six months less so, and I think a lot of that is down to a) a few more women around and b) PAS showing that it is possible to have a big political blog and lots of comments without it inevitably turning into a sewer. I have had quite a lot of backlash in the past, including from other women bloggers, for bitchin' and from reading feminist blogs overseas I can see it's not just NZ that has this problem.
Lucky I'm a patient person ;-)

Bear with me, I'm not sure I'm going to be able to say this right, but I do find it frustrating when the negative experiences some women have had in political engagement are explained away. It's like it didn't happen, when it did.
I know there are some women who it doesn't happen to, online or in real life. That's great. That's how it should be. There are those who experience it but aren't phased and don't understand why other women are - and sometimes those women aren't very sympathetic to others who actually think politics shouldn't be about verbal and textual chinese burns. Some men clearly aren't sympathetic either.
Yes politics is in some ways a game. But it doesn't mean that it isn't real. It doesn't mean that hurting someone doesn't count because then they just go back a level and get to have another bash at it. Many people don't get involved in politics to have fights and win. Many people don't start political blogging because they want to score points and tear other people to shreds. But that is the way on most other nz pol blogs (apart from PA and a few others).
I'm glad Emma raised the issue of Tim Barnett's blog. Those commenters are still largely around, infesting Tony Milne's blog (I See Red) in particular, and also Jordan's (Just Left) to the point where's he's turned off comments while he's out of the country. Jordan and Tony aren't female bloggers, but they're not hetero or right wing and so they challenge the dominant discourse and get the internet bash for being those appointed the online representatives of the Labour party by those who hate Clark and Labour. The comments they get are incredibly nasty, and Tony in particular posts very thoughtfully in a manner you wouldn't think would attract such vile taunts.
Anyway - is that the kind of blogosphere we want, one where bullies are mainly in the ascendant? I don't.
