Hard News: The Vision Thing, in reply to
What, no mention of Tony Marryatt?
Nothing. Key, Brownlee and Smith have all been extremely coy when questioned about the practice of CEO lotto. Brownlee's described the Marryatt issue as a matter for the Council, while Key finds his fake rejection of his pay rise* "clever".
Hastings Mayor Lawrence Yule has been briefed by Smith in his role as Local Government New Zealand President. Despite his having been a prominent apologist for local government salary largesse he's currently "unable to comment"
While there's no specific reference to attacking faux-corporate wastage in Smith's proposals, that hasn't stopped both Fairfax and the Herald spinning things by pretending that there is.
(*Marryatt has already trousered around half of his $70,000 pay rise. His 'refusal' of the rest is so vague and conditional as to be meaningless. Presumably that's what Key finds admirable)

That fountain in Australia.
The wonderful Archibald.
Great pic Jackson. BTW that's the one figure from the fountain's Greek mythological cast of characters that no-one's clear on who he's supposed to be. -
Some old pinhole stuff from Aucklander John Henry. The images are unfortunately rather small, but having seen some as exhibition prints back in the day I was struck by the remarkable level of detail. The Eiffel tower in particular is a marvellous demonstration of the precision pinhole's ability to achieve infinite depth of field.

The now-vanished 'water feature' badly needed those tiles to relieve the bleak expanses of stainless steel. While those who'd never experienced a pub urinal might miss the connotation, the early critic who dubbed it "a busload of bowlers back from the Coast" wasn't far off.

. . . focus on attacking the symptom.
Exactly. It's the culture of risk aversion, driven by expensive and ongoing legal advice, that's currently paralysing Christchurch. And Paula Bennett's contribution is to train the unemployed as red zone security guards.

I’ve always hated that War Memorial!
Whatever, a bit of water would improve it out of sight.

H L Bowker fountain - first illuminated electric fountain in Australasia. Like a 1930s lava lamp, only better.
Also floral clock info. -

Poor old Godley. Described by D'Arcy Cresswell as the "founder foundering in a pot of tar."
