  • Capture: Two Tales of a City, in reply to Gudrun Gisela,

    Sooo cute Gudrun.

I shall be rejoining you here soon; which is really an excuse to say that I have taken the DSLR plunge at long last, after really wanting the image quality but trying to do them on a high-spec compact. Yesterday I bought a Nikon S3200, and I'm in love from the first shot! I was up until 2am playing with it!

  • Capture: Wellington? Well, I Would., in reply to Jos,

I used to go to parties up Grass street, surprise surprise!
And skinny dipping outside the beachcomber at midnight!

Mmnn...yess; I think I know of what you speak ;-) Vintage fur coats and sand at 3am.

    everyone has a Wellington story

I lived for years in (ahem) Grass Street: 10 to 15 mins walk going up from the bay; 3 minutes going down to the bay. It was steep; and beautiful.

Love them. Love Wellington . I lived there for years -- a lot of the time just up the hill from that Oriental Bay picture of the waves. Walked to work most days along the waterfront to Willis St.

Being Welly that will be a hip-apotamus, right?

Where is the pink wall, and the grafitti lane? What was your shop?

Here’s a ref that supports both our thinkings on this:

I shall consult some books! Tomorrow; for me it is time to sleep. Good night Islander

Happy happenings this week, as opposed to unhappy happenings ;-)

All the talk of the tree fuschia reminds me of its brilliant purple-blue berries, and dianella nigra, or turutu, which has the most stunning bright blue berries (very poisonous so I didn't grow while the children were young).

    wagging the dog…

    It seems someone stole them.

I believe only one was stolen, and the other two are in council storage, though I can’t find a link to corroborate that. I do note that plans are afoot to redo the bronze beast from scratch…

    Found this:

Lilith's ribbonwood is the mature version -- at first they go up, column-like. Then grow a crown like the picture. The graceful narrow-leafed lacebark Hoheria angustifolia can look rather like a ribbonwood when it's young.

@Islander: Have been derailed by four birthdays, a significant anniversary and big things happening, all since Monday. Tomorrow, I get to the computer hooked up to email to reply to you! Please accept my apologies. It has been a life-changing week!

Hail and thunder and lightning just to keep us in line.

Great pic. Those clouds were epic, and the lightning massive. Hollywood-style drama; much better than earthquakes!

  • Capture: Two Tripods, One Night, in reply to Lilith __,

Awe-some pictures Lilith. I hoped you or Gudrun would be handy with a camera -- I was busy cooking. It was incredible: for us nearly an hour of huge sheet lightning flashes every three or four minutes that lit up the sky like massive fireworks. Then huge rain drops and then lumps of ice, then over.
