WikiLeaks hasn't fostered anything here. It has released data.
You think it is irrelevant tittle tattle. That's fine. I am just happy to have raw data, although I think we need to see a hell of a lot more of it before it becomes really useful.

It is still annoying that the press gets to act as a public filter. I suspect the SST's interests are not many of ours. For example, I would like to see the 9 cables on IT, the cables about "Trade and Technology Controls" and the cables about trade agreements. These have a direct impact on my industry and at a time when NZ companies are calling for transparency WRT trade negotiations, they are very relevant.

I agree with the sentiment that this does not make Assange infallible, far from it. But a cult leader? For goodness sake.

Craig, your comments to others in this forum are abusive, bullying and insulting. I don't think they would be tolerated in other fora with similar goals for inclusive discussion. It's one thing to vigorously disagree it is quite another to take the line and tone you are taking.

Confused may not be the word but certainly he has been trailing the wanted tag for a while.
Well...he did stuck around in Sweden during the initial investigation and left on being told there would be no charges. Not so keen to return now, for sure, but hardly avoiding the law.

I like my vote as well. But it works better if I am better informed. Wikileaks and other forms of openness help that considerable.
I am very concerned that PA's editorial policy seems to be:
1. Assange's an arsehole
2. Government needs to keep secrets
The former you are welcome to (although assumption of guilt seems surprisingly strong here), that latter, as a default position, sucks eggs. Governments have far too many secrets, this is far more damaging and debilitating than the fact Vlad and his palls may be subject to the occasional embarrassment.
Oh, and don't you think it is pertinent that Sarah Ferguson's ex is open to the idea that a bit of corruption is ok?

The content of the cables is, obviously, followed by the question as to how public servants can give advice – and that’s what most of the cables are, advice – if it can never be given in confidence.
No, we can marvel at how public statements of fact often contradict what is being said in private. That’s much more interesting. And maybe we can hold politicians and public servants a little bit more accountable. Lots of public service advice is given in public, far more than you seem to realise. It is good for democracy and for giving accurate advice. Let’s have more of it, please.
Also, looking at the reporting of these cables is interesting. The NYT seems to be cheer leading an attack on Iran (despite the actual content of the cable in question contradicting their basis for this).
The enemies of the US are evil, many people are on the side of Uncle Sam, and the British Royal Family are idiots. No wonder some people see this release as a CIA plot :-)

The rubbish most sites have to put up with when they change is stunning, but all the upgrades I have seen have lead to *huge* increases in readership after the initial hiatus. I expect to see the same here.
