  • Hard News: Another Big Day,

Obama leaves me strangely cold with all his rhetoric dressed up as poetry. It must be the Aspie in me.
It is a pity there will be little chance of an Clinton-Obama ticket (or vice versa, whatever floats your boat) but McCain-Huckabee in the White House has a great chance of the Baptist becoming president as the grim reaper is surely poised over McCain and his great age.
One should also pay attention to the House and Senate races, because a president needs a majority unless lame duckery is appealing.
Fascinating daily poll meta-analysis here: http://www.electoral-vote.com/

  • Southerly: Overheard on a Bus,

Oh, and a plural form of spice for multiple spouses would convey its meaning so much better too, as in big love :)

  • Southerly: Overheard on a Bus,

are those the same people who rhyme house with mice?

    Doesn't it?
I never understood why the plural of house isn't "hice", while it is lice and mice.
Nuzildish may be cringing but Shore girls speaklng valley talk with a kiwi accent is reason enough to cancel a second harbour crossing.

  • Hard News: And on into a whole new year,

Doris Kearns Goodwin? Lordy, she's the one accused of plagiarism in her presidential biographies(by the Weekly Standard, but hey, she hasn't been invited back since by PBS to appear as an expert presidential historian on the News Hour.

If the All Blacks had applied more fear play than fair play they night have been world champs.
Honestly, as a non-native English (or Nuzild-ish) speaker I cringe how English is mangled on these shaky isles. No wonder immigrant shopkeepers get confused and stabbed when addressed by yoofs wanting "chuppies", "suggies" or "mulk"

  • Word of the Year 2007,

Y'all be most welcome to our little island of Waiheke. Please bear in mind that the locals do not take kindly to being invaded. Do as the islanders do: conserve water, use your car sparingly (walking is healthy, or if you feel like tackling our hills, bring your bike), do your shopping at odd hours (the supermarket queues do get quite long and testy), leave your big city attitudes in New Zealand, listen to Beach FM (99.4FM) and take all your clothes off on Palm Beach.

  • Hard News: Spammer until proven innocent,

Am I too cynical in thinking that the anti-EFB campaign by the Herald is largely driven by venality, as they stand to lose a lot of advertising dollars in election year if lobby groups rich enough to buy Herald ad space are limited in their spending?

Ride of the Valkyries is Helen Clark's theme song, not Ivan the Terrible. Get your opera buffoonery right :)
