It's interesting to speculate how much of the killer-cyborg vibe is context. The pic, by Peiter Hugo, originally appeared in the New York Times last year to, it seems, no controversy at all.
It's certainly interesting how the image gained a whole new life once the context changed. Its original message seems to be the kind of thing that fits well with corporate mythology, with all those implications about overcoming adversity being down to motivation, with a little help from technology.
I remember a prominently displayed hoarding in similar style that was all over Sydney in the late 90s. A men's basketball team, all disabled athletes, were featured in a lavishly lit studio shot, with as much emphasis on their gleaming protheses as on their almost psychotic eyeballing of the viewer. Paid for by the bank who happened to be the team's sponsor,

IF someone goes to the bother of fully costing (and presumably that means being very clear about what exactly they have in mind) it'll be interesting- and demonstrate someone is doing the thinking.
I believe that Brendon Burns was taking his shadow role in that area pretty seriously before September 2010. While I wasn't exactly his biggest fan prior to the quakes, I'm genuinely sorry he's gone.

It seems that video game only applies to video recordings for games though? Not programmers, artists etc.
So I imagine it would cover cut scenes in games, and maybe performance capture?
My recollection from doing storyboarding and design for games in Australia nearly 15 years ago is that actors were the only ones with union cover. Motion capture was what they were engaged for, and the impression I got was that they were paid the legal minimum, and didn't consider it the kind of experience that would appear on their CVs.
While it's an awfully long time ago that I discussed these issues with an Australian union person, their position was that contract work was seen as essentially "piecework", which in their view was simply illegal.

Yes, well . . . good luck to Mr Armstrong in staying one jump ahead of Newtown's "hipsters", but a fondness for ethnic cuisine is no guarantee that someone doesn't share some of Prosser's more odious attitudes. When Christchurch white supremacist Kyle Chapman held forth in the Eastgate Mall food court a few years back his interviewer noted the appreciative noises he made about the smells from the nearby Indian curry outlet.
From some of the comments on Armstrong's piece it would seem that there are pockets of "the dreary, Waimakariri, Pakeha Christian oneness" not too far from multicultural Newtown. No surprises there. Anyway, I wouldn't know about the irrigation sector that Prosser supposedly worked in before he struck it lucky, but from what I've seen lately the rural NZ economy has become quietly dependent on a huge immigrant workforce. You can buy sumac in some unexpected places now, though the Masterfoods stuff is not much better than lemony dust.
