  • Hard News: Not all victims are equal,

Meanwhile, a story that's not getting as much mileage as it should:

Indeed. As Bush's Presidency and Administration draws to a close I expect we will see more of this sort of reporting.

The New York Times has a great article on just how objective all those Generals and military analysts we see on the telly really are.

One Aussie is certainly not impressed.

  • Hard News: Hot Media,

Yes, well Poneke got very indignant that a blogger might have influenced a BBC article into being amended and saw it as an attack on journalism. The author did respond with

Among my e-mail exchanges was one with an environmental campaigner who published our e-mails implying that we had changed our article as a result of her threat to publicly criticise our report. We didn’t change it for that reason. We changed it to improve the piece. But we’ve stirred the wrath of some of our readers as a result.

The main criticism was not about the revised version of the story itself, which contains the same facts as the original plus extra background - but that we changed the report apparently under pressure and did not signal the changes.

In the Listeners case, there seems to be actual blood on the floor. And while Poneke gives every indication of being a climate change sceptic, I trust he will again assume the high ground and we will see if bloggers can make a difference.

  • Hard News: Speaking freely,

I enjoyed the panel on media7 this week. Ganesh Nana tried valiantly to point out that there is so much more to the economy than the headlines.

But it is difficult to get past 'if it bleeds...it leads'.

I thought the point that if we were all more informed about the economy we would be less inclined to lose money in it merits reiteration.

  • Hard News: Speaking freely,

I was at St Bernards primary in Brooklyn. I didn't think it was anything other than a stormy Wellington day, until my father came from work and took me home, where we all stayed with the curtains drawn in case the windows blew in.

I can remember listening to the radio...probably 2zb, about the events unfolding.

It seemed to be all over by mid afternoon and we went for a drive to see what had happened to the Wahine. A huge ( to me) lifeboat beached ,will always be in my memory...

  • Hard News: Icon Identities,

I get somewhat annoyed with the tribal metric placed on the politcians. Us/them...yours/ours. Collectively these people guide us and the country through to the future. I don't have a problem with anyone asking one or more of them why they are personally against something that they are also collectively in support of. I have no real problem with politicans being in such a position...it is a very real fact of being in a politcial party.

But I do like to know their positions. I do like to be able to see if they are actively undermining their Party's position. If we were to have a journalist or two who would find out why they are doing so...even better. But while we live in the time of 'gotcha' journalism,I think we will end up with spectacle before information.

  • Hard News: Slumpy Cashflow,

'Dorresteyn, husband Richard and four partners are the cheese pioneers behind Clevedon Valley Buffalo Company.

Although newcomers to the specialist cheese industry, this South Auckland-based company upstaged veteran cheesemakers by winning two golds and two silvers at the Cuisine New Zealand Champions of Cheese Awards last week.

The buffalo ricotta won the Champion Fresh Unripened Cheese Award and the Champion New Cheese Award.

The mozzarella won silver in the European Style Cheese and the New Cheese categories.'

Clevedon isn't __that __far from Dunedin...is it?

Oooh, thank you for that Russell. That has saved me time and effort searching for solutions. Seems they even accommodate the PS3.

I wonder if the msm would be as quick and helpful...

Our new set has three inputs too, which is actually just enough.

Indeed. We bought a Bravia six months ago with just one HDMI slot.

    Bugger.
