  • Hard News: Awful in more than one way,

You guys are going to hate this, espcially the "all guns are evil crowd".

But worldwide, there has not been a single school shooting prevent by police or law enforcement.

    - Most have ended in suicide
    - Beslan was stopped by the military, after a sustained gunfight
    - Peal Mississippi was stopped when a teacher, exited the 1km radius gun free zone, retrieved his handgun from the car and disabled the shooter. In this time, the killer had more time to kill innocents.
    - The Appalacian Law School shotting was stopped when two students, both left the 1km gun free zone, got their guns and disabled the shooters. In this time, the killer had more time to kill innocents.

Make of this what you will.

  • Island Life: A Special Public Address Message,

Have passed the link onto a friend who has aspergers and is really into their IT stuff. I'd expect that you'd already know her though.

  • Hard News: Nasty mixtures,

"If we were a bit more grown-up, there would be, as an earlier commenter said, specific ESR-sourced warnings about specific adulterated pills. That would be the public safety thing to do."

That would be assuming that the police were there to promote public safety and harm reduction - which based on my experiance with the police is not their prime concern at the moment.

  • Hard News: Nasty mixtures,

"At the moment, you can sell the stuff by the gram in dairies and I don't think that's optimal."

I currently purchase my BZP legally by the gram (not from dairies however). And its the only way I can actually consume it (I gag on pills of any type, I even have dissolvable panadol when).

The proposed regs could possibly make this illegal. Why should I be treated like a criminal for consuming a substance in this way vs someone who has it in pill or capsule form.

If you want quality and strict measurements then you buy a retail product that is labelled. That is no reason to criminalise those of us who prefer to purchase it in other ways.

I don't know of any dairies selling BZP by the gram (but have heard rumors of such from Christchurch - which seems to be the home of retarded BZP use).

If selling it in weighted bags becomes illegal, people will still purchase it that way if its their preferred method of use. All criminalising/regulating it will do is increase the likelyhood that its cut with other substances if they are forced underground.

  • Hard News: Nasty mixtures,

The irresponsible journalism is driving me nuts regarding BZP - I've been covering a fair bit of it lately in my site, though was hoping not to as I don't want to be seen as apill crazed munter - just someone who cares abour personal freedom and civil liberties:

A quick cut and past though:

This article is trying to make out that legally obtained BZP based pills contain either MDMA (commonly known as ecstacy) or Meth (i.e. P) in them. This is simply not the case. There are NO legally sold BZP based party pills on the market in New Zealand which contain any illegal substance under the misuse of drugs act. Any journalist (or Police officer) reporting otherwise, is either guilty or idiocy, lying or has no journalistic integrity.

What they are describing in this case is pills being sold illegally (which shouldn't be illegal in the first place) as E, but which are not pure MDMA. Often drugs (regardless of the type) are cut with other substances, sometimes other drugs, other times just simple substances, such as chalk, washing powder, who knows when its illegal and there are no trading standards to go by.

In this case - the "E" was obviously cut with BZP, which is cheaper to purchase legally in New Zealand than the ingredients to make E (i.e. MDMA). This allows the drug dealers to increase their profits, while their customers still get "high" albiet with different effects to real E (i.e. speedy as opposed to "loved up" feelings that E users typically experiance).

Certain puritan tories, are using this as an excuse to call for the banning of BZP again. Which has to be the stupidest reponse known to man. These people are already breaking the law by selling E, does she really think that by criminalising BZP that they won't be doing this? Having these drugs illegal just makes it more likely that they will be cut with crappy, nasty and potentially dangerous substances, as users by breaking the law have no legal rights over the quality of what they buy.

Regulating BZP won't stop E from containing BZP, just like it won't stop it from containing washing powder, glass or anything else. Banning won't either. If anything it increases the likelyhood of it containing something more dangerous than the drug itself.

Prohibition doesn't work - and the journalists and police involved with this irresponsible reporting should be ashamed of themselfs. Then again, when have they ever let the facts get in the way of a good story to sell to conservative busybodies that infest New Zealand.

    More will be at: http://mikeenz.blogspot.com/search/label/BZP

The Libz are setting up a petition regarding BZP (paper based) .. I've cloned it on the web and its available at:

  • Hard News: Ihug: still screwed?,

    * No invoices for two months then the complain the bill hasn't been paid.
    * On hold for 4 hours over the weekend to try and work out why net isn't working
    * CSR who is reading of a script and has no technical knowledge at all

    (all blogged about on website)

We want to leave Ihug straight away, the only thing stopping us is the length of time it takes to get through to their so called "24 hour help line" and the disconnection fee. (Really its a bit rich to get charged a disconnection fee for leaving a company whose service is so bad).

I've never had as bad a customer service experiance as I have had with "Ihug, voted NZ's best ISP"
