"IMO this election is going to be won or lost in the hip pockets not the heart and mind."

That's sad because it should be won in the mind surely.Democracy should be more robust than that. The market shouldn't be the election, it should be up for discussion alongside many other societal factors."

Thank you Craig for such a reasoned response. It was kind of bugging me that I may have upset you again. But what is the answer to Keiths question?

"How many cases like that of Ye Guozhu, sentenced to 4 years’ imprisonment for his opposition to forced evictions ..and subsequently tortured while in detention, would it take for him to reconsider the April signing of a preferential trade agreement with China?"

or How many people will be tortured until Mike Cullen decides to stop it?

It’s a nasty question that suggests Cullen is comfortable with china killing it’s citizens and can't stop it and it doesn't have a rational answer apart from none..

Cullens a hardworking bastard who should probably sleep more and he loses it. Does he lie? I don't know. If he did that's poor, but he lost his temper, it doesn't make him irrational. The content of his speech makes him irrational.

I think you have to concede that the question was inflammetry and its a question no one seems to be providing an answer to. The correct answer would be none but trade being what it is , the thing we do with relaxed ethics so we can eat seems to over rule everything.

do we need this trade? what do you think?

And who would of 20 years ago thought we’d have to hold our tongues on human rights abuse for trade reasons but here we are, dealing with the absurdities of trying to keep your economy afloat in a sea of world economies who quite frankly couldn’t give a shit about our gdp. It's appalling and all I know is I didn't vote for it.

Cunt is a word people use quite commonly in the workplace, at home at the bar and of course in schools. It has many meanings in common language .It’s meaning is similar to “negative individual “but it’s a lot stronger. Cuntish way means “negative way”

You can’t ban words, so you might as well celebrate them. Censorship is a poor concept that severely holds back our ability to evolve the language .language evolution literally extends the richness of our dialogue. We need evolution, we need better communication.

To me right wing parties who don’t seem to be in any shape to govern are crass not words, the right wing modern conservative movement is incredibly crass and disturbing and gives conservatism a bad name everywhere, but words are just fucking words.

thanks for the apology though.I certainly not out to piss you off but I do disagree with a lot of the things you say

No, Keith Locke was doing what opposition parties should do, ask good questions. Cullen answered him.

The question of Cullens inference is something for those men to settle in the debating chamber, that's why we have a debating chamber.

How do we know Cullen isn't lying and if he isn't why should he shut up? It's free speech. If he overacted that's incredibly disappointing
but his track record is excellent and should be recognised as such .

This is our central chamber of free speech. It's not inconceivable that Keith may have held that position once, a lot of people did. A lot of sensible american politicians thought invading iraq was a good idea
    once.

Like any political chamber it gets heated. This is a polarised country politically and debate tend to get incredibly heated in these environments.

I'm not saying our debating chamber is perfect but it's an important vehicle for discussion and needs to be understood as such.Intense rational debate has an aggression that needs to be somehow accomodated in our political discussions or we'll continue moving at this slow boom/bust march to nowhere.

It’s a fucking debating chamber, they’re debating. it's not sport... and they know each other it seems.

Cullen is asking Keith Locke to get current human right violations in context to the recent history of China. He’s a very talented debater and a man whose intellect we should celebrate, not demonise.

"If correct, that takes some of the supernatural gloss off the nativity story."

There' s a lot of historical and of course scientific evidence to make religion extinct tomorrow but that wont happen and as we speak some poor kid in a religous school a few streets away from your desk is having the powerful threat of hell poured into his ear. It's child abuse and it's depressing. I'm sure a few of us here have suffered similar brain washing.

"Obama has just made a speech disagreeing with those who blame all ills on white people who live in nice surburban neighbourhoods."

That's why I like him. ....but it's not a particular big call , it's just a rational call and has nothing to do with my original post. I am white people god dammit!!!!!!trashy and all.

...and Epsom act voters might not all be white, who knows? The post was questioning what the act party actually brings to our political forum apart from crazy economics (which by the way are well catered for by the right wing of the national party) and bad dancing.

Thank you Epsom. I hope your lives haven't suffered too much at the hands of the uncaring socialists.

Anyway International Observer is the guy bringing race into it , although that doesn't make him a racist. I love white people.
