In the UK party leaders singing embarrassing childish parody songs about their opponents goes back to William the Conqueror, at least. That it may not be the case here has come as a bit of a surprise.

The idea that you run to a court as soon as you think you are defamed is nuts. It generally only works for really rich folks or corporations. The rest of us try and keep our heads down and avoid costly forays into the courts. An "nut job media" type trick is to accuse someone of shit and then if not sued point to this as evidence of guilt on the part of the defamed party.

Yeah, Joe Stalin would be rolling in his grave at that definition. I wonder how he will explain away Ms Helen "ABSOLUTE POWER" Clark having to face general elections every three years.

Thanks Danyl for the informative link to Mr. Wishart's forthcoming publication.
I approach it with some trepidation however as the title, "ABSOLUTE POWER", suggests that this book may be as divorced from reality as his thoughts on evolution, religion, society and just about anything else he cares to pontificate on.
Maybe someone could inform Mr. Wishart that Helen Clark has headed three minority governments since 1999 and never been close to "ABSOLUTE POWER". I say this only in the interests of Wishart not making a complete dick of himself, again.

Those Alas posts are pretty good. I did come across this reason for voting Obama in the comments:

It is disappointing to learn that some employers are already pushing down wages, especially as there’s a tax credit to offset at least part of their contribution for the first two years.
Sure, but imagine how disappointing it is to be in the throes of setting up shop in Aussie and finding that that tax haven expects employers to chip in a compulsory 9% of annual salary to super *and* to pay a payroll tax of 6% (once your payroll exceeds $50k/month).
All in all that comes to an effective income tax of 15% over and above the headline rate.

Like the Poneke article and Russell's response. As I have said before it seems the information given out varied. Here in Wellington we had a very open dialog during a public meeting with a MOH representative. Possibly due to the fact that we were done later in the campaign and some of the issues faced by people like Russell had been aired. Some anti-vac folks did try and dominate our meeting which got pretty annoying after a while.
What I didn't see was a deliberate attempt to mislead folks.
