Hard News: Trump 2018, in reply to
Yes indeed, but if the car is the USA who will have the ability to fix the nation which is so divided and dysfunctional at its highest level?
It's not Trump, in fact he can be viewed as a symptom of what is ailing the US.
The " city on a shining hill" is starting to look like a shit can.
The US political system needs some serious attention however I don't see how these will be addressed in a satisfactory manner. I hope that the post Trump America takes a good long soul searching look at itself.
I fear that it's teetering on the edge of a very dark fall.As the Economist Intelligence Unit observed when it demoted the USA from "full democracy" to "flawed democracy" for the first time ever:
The downgrade was not a consequence of Donald Trump, states the report. Rather, it was caused by the same factors that led Mr Trump to the White House: a continued erosion of trust in government and elected officials, which the index measures using data from global surveys. In total, it incorporates 60 indicators across five broad categories: electoral process and pluralism, functioning of government, political participation, democratic political culture and civil liberties.

There was one other sector that frustrated out commentators: agriculture. The farming lobby – and its intransigent press, which remains stubbornly outside the mainstream – continues to resist reform or, in many cases, even acknowledge a roblem.
Another sector causing frustration: coastal real estate owners who'll protect their valuations at any cost, even when it means the censorship of critical public data.

My latest CGI pic, commemorating nearly a year to the day. Best viewed with the accompanying video/audio.

PostNeoliberal
Inspired by Brian Eston and the mazing exhibition by Simon Denny on at at Michael Lett Gallery.
There was a fascinating reaction to this at the IRL , not least the hosts, who viewed it as a term of abuse. I suppose polite people would say PostLibertarian. Not as much fun I think.
There's definitely an unavoidable whiff of "post-something", regardless of what it's called.

Hard News: Abroad and Home, in reply to
For those who want an update, the British Prime Minister Teresa May has just had her legs kicked out from under her by the DUP, a bunch of swivel-eyed religious loons who would rather cut out their own tongues than think the word 'compromise'.
Theresa May could well become this century's Anthony Eden.

Feed: Melting pot: A cuisine of immigrants, in reply to
Apparently torisashi a.k.a. chicken sashimi is a thing in Japan. That's a nope from me.
Same goes for steak tartare.

The newness is both a strength & weakness: we can (and do) freely borrow/steal from every other cuisine to make it our own. Before the 1990s sushi was almost unheard of but today, it has become ubiquitous. But it can also take us down some less desirable paths, like slathering sweet chilli sauce on and declaring whatever the resulting plate of food is to be a "fusion" dish. *shudders*
Mind you, the Aussies have asked themselves the same "culinary cringe" questions from time to time.

But I can't say with much confidence that they improved the cuisine here :).
Does Gouda cheese count?

I should add that middle/upper middle-class affluence is no ironclad guarantee of success in life. People from such affluence can still end up on the wrong side of the labour market due to disability, mental illness or neuro-deviance. I'm one of them, as well as a few others in my inner circle.
