  • Hard News: New Sky,

Most people will feel they are being delivered a "better" product when they see the HD picture on their screen... and it's a fairly ordinary business practice to charge extra money for a better product/service.

The problem that I can see with SKY is because of their large bouquet they can compress channels at will so who knows what you will get on the day on a channel. Already they can squeeze channels when they show a blockbuster movie to ensure good quality but in later repeats the do not allow the same bandwidth. Will the same apply with HD

  • Hard News: New Sky,

Your PVR is that a Topfield TF6000 or a hacked TiVo. The Topfield TF7700(NZ) modded is likely to be the first off the block for NZ DTT PVR which is a little ironic in that Topfield were not given a chance in the certified boxes and now it looks as if the only certified DTT PVR box is likely to be Topfield.

  • Hard News: New Sky,

Mmmm As usual it sounds as if SKY have done their homework and will provide a superior product. I don't think Freeview will have a PVR with intelligence out till late this year or even next year. Rumours are that TV3 which are supposed to have two more channels on Freeview by end of this year may well consider walking away from Freeview and do a deal with SKY. If that happens where would that leave Government plans to try and force Freeview as the replacement of analogue TV.
Freeview seem to me to have missed the bus by not having a MYSKY equivalent at launch date.

  • Hard News: Too busy with First Life sorry,

Come on it is certainly not necessary to spend any money in SL unless you wnat to have land or buildings. It is perfectly possible to carry out all manner of activities without spending a cent. There are some amazing groups that have regular discussions in Real Time and friendships do develop out of the contacty with like minded people. It is also possible to learn scripting and building items to sell or exchange or even give away.
Try looking at the work Victoria University are doing in second life or IBM with its virtual help desk. Orsome of the live band events that you wopuld never see outside of SL

  • Hard News: Evil,

No I am not thinking of Burrett trial During the trial for which Shipton Schollum and McNamara were convicted the beach hut that was the aledeged place of the rape was magically spirited to Wellington against the orders of the trial judge. In a counter to this the police baton was also left on the desk in open view also against judges ruling.
I want to know how the beach hut got to Wellington from the Mount. I know why it was put there but that is another matter

  • Hard News: Evil,

This sordid part of Police History is by no means finished. Something else never satisfactorily explained is that during the Mt. Maunganui trial in Wellington someone within the NZ Police presumably paid for the beach hut to be trasnsported down to Wellingtyon and displayed on the footpath outside the court house. This was contrary to the Judges decision that it could not be displayed. Who organised this and who in the department sanctioned the transportation to Wellington. This was carried out with the intention of influencing the jury and was castigated by trial judge. But of course no follow up by media.
