  • Speaker: North versus South, Part 1,

I'm not such a tough audience, but I like it too.

I find it quite disconcerting when I come across people who speak efficiently and to the point... they're usually the ones who see straight through my unsure opinions and circuitous conclusions. And those long pauses are killers too. You get the feeling they don't really subscribe to the idea of not knowing what you think until you've said it.

Hairy Harry kinda looks like today's Roky Erickson.

  • Field Theory: All White on the night,

This is the most unabashedly happy I've been this year... it's like being a 10 year old again! My favourite player is Rory Fallon, and I want to put his poster on my wall. I'm even thinking about sleeping with my shin guards on.

  • Random Play: All Apologies,

Moving from the 'sorry' topic on to more of a 'thank you' - Graham, that BLK JKS album you note on Music From Elsewhere is an absolute gem!

Can see where you're getting the TV on the Radio theme from - slightly more headfucky though. Great piece of music erudition.

    So, yeah, thanks.

  • Cracker: Fillerup,

I really don't know whether humans are capable of extracting every last drop of oil from all the earth's porous rock... but that's kind of the point isn't it? It's not much use if we can't get our greasy hands on it.

Then again, maybe humans will be able to do this in the year 2525, if man is still alive, if woman can survive.

I guess a potential problem with the "long tail" on your "normal distribution" curve (I almost got lost in the science there) is that it assumes demand will stay the same, which, despite rising prices, doesn't really look too likely at the moment. So, if we have actually reached some sort of accessible oil production peak, maybe the tail isn't quite as long as it might be?

Anyway, the point is that usable oil will run out - whether that's in terms of what's under our feet, or what's in attained (and attainable) reserves.

  • Cracker: Fillerup,

oil is going to run out.

    nah.

Oil isn't running out? I thought the fact that oil was formed in the past means that it's finite... you know, has a beginning and an end...

but you're right, it probably is the end of the halcyon days of cheap oil - particularly if you're inclined to believe that we've reached the 'peak' of oil production - as purported here:

But good stuff on the vespa, Damian. I think they're cute. In a manly cute kinda way.

  • Cracker: Welcome Home?,

Whoever it was that criticised the Borough Markets, I fully concur. Each time I visit I:

    a. end up queueing for at least 20 minutes
    b. end up queuing for something I regret each time I get to the front of said queue (like a venison burger)
    c. feel faintly nauseous after I eating what I queued for

Sure, there's the odd interesting thing to buy (e.g. wheatgrass, but the jury's out on that still), but it all ends up disagreeing with me in one way or another.

Every sinner in London congregates there too.

Oh woah is me! Oh woah is London!

  • Island Life: LOLnats,

For a long time I thought this was really, really lame... but I get it now, and seem to be giggling.

following the giggles there are bouts of side splitting laughter.

BUT, I just tried to explain it to group of workmates and they looked at me like I had a sick head

FYI: lolnats better left for readers
