  • Che Tibby,

    w.t.f. is marshall on?

he's from a country where people worship the ground an all black walks on, and he's having a little tissy about not getting enough recognition?

what the hell does he want, a life-time supply of glory?

oh, wait... he already had that...

  • Hadyn Green,

He might be annoyed he can't use "I used to be an All Black" as a pick up line.

  • Jitendra Patel,

Good to see you guys covering the rugby. I hope and believe that the AB's will win the damm thing, but if I had a dollar for everytime I felt like that in the lead up to a rugby world cup, I'd be . . .well not rich, but at least $4 better off :)

I thought about us losing this tournament and how/why this would happen and blogged about it at sportsthought.com

  • Hadyn Green,

Also, surely we're all excited to watch the opening game?

France. Argentina. It's got "upset" written all over it. Not to mention the awe and pageantry of the opening ceremony. Lights, fireworks, dancers in fabulous costumes interpreting native customs, and speeches by old men. All in front of an unappreciative crowd.
    Wooooooooo!

  • Craig Ranapia,

Of course he does, you silly pudding. And I want to shag Daniel Carter until his eyes pop out, but that's not going to happen either.

As for the Brits being "very receptive of their players", WTF planet is he on? Like politicians, I think Kiwi sportspeople who bitch and whinge about the media would have their heads explode if they had to deal with the Brits or Oz media in full lynch-mode.

  • Robyn Gallagher,

Well, I don't know anything about rugby, but I do know that there are ex-All Blacks out there that people love - dudes like Sean Fitzpatrick, Zinzan Brooke and Colin Meads, yes.

I think people haven't moved into full-on "Justin is awesome!!!" hero worship yet because a) he's still young and still playing, and b) he's moved away from New Zealand so he's not here any more.

In other words, you just haven't earned it yet, baby.

(Holy shit. I just wrote a comment about rugby.)

Signed off with a Smiths song title, no less. Snap-ity, snap, snap, snap!

  • Chaos Buddha,

. . . yeah. If he'd signed off in a blaze of All Black glory, then maybe Marshall would be looking at the whole handprints-in-the-cement-thing.

But when you start to play like poos, and on the cusp of being dropped bail to play for someone else in another country, then . . . ummmn . . . seeya.

  • Russell Brown,

Everyone seems to think Flavell should be packing his bags, including Pat Lam, who's got him on a reconditioning programme for when the AB coaches call time on Robinson and his dodgy calf.

If he goes, he might just surprise.

  • LegBreak,

Keeping with the Smiths theme, perhaps last night Meg dreamt that someone loved him. Just another false alarm.

The tournament starts tomorrow morning (Fra – Arg) not with the All Black game.

For the next month (pool play) there are bugger all possibilities for upsets, and tomorrow morning is one of them. And yes, the French will do that pageantry stuff well.

I would LOVE to see that.

So... you'd expect France to win, right? Hmmmmmm

well, this charming man will certainly be hoping to see los puma's maul the french.

    strange days, here we come.

  • Richard Llewellyn,

    Here we go ....

Hmmm, can't see Los Puma's springing an upset though, methinks that canny Laporte has the Frenchies brewing nicely and they will win their group in a canter.

Justin Justin Justin, there is a fine difference between providing 'good copy' and making yourself look like a dork.

I wouldn't be too upset if Flavell gets the call-up - now he's had a chance for a rest he would not let anyone down.

Bit of a sporting wonderland at the moment - if the stars align nicely we will in about 7 weeks time see AB's getting the worlds biggest sporting monkey off their backs, the Warriors winning the NRL, and Liverpool still top of the table :)

Honestly having a hard time remembering a time when he has done anything but in the media.

Che, You think the French might’ve started something they just couldn’t finish? That would paint a vulgar picture.

me never get over 1981 Springbok Tour

me still fascinated how many ardent '81 protestors did

me should just take blue pill and wave All Black flag

  • Michael Savidge,

Marshall was, is and is likely to always be, a blowhard.

He fails to understand that most All Black fans (and most Kiwis for that matter) don't warm to people who talk themselves up or whinge when the tide turns.

And I for one have an innate mistrust of blokes who bleach their hair blonde...being a hardcore surfer is the only way to achieve that look with integrity.

leg, i know this conversation started as bigmouth striking again, but the world won't listen to anything less than the pumas winning.

  • Hadyn Green,

If [Flavell] goes, he might just surprise.

you mean when he punches someone at the wrong moment, causes a penalty and we lose by 3 points?

That's the only reason it scares me put him in the squad. Any other tournament, no worries.

and the French are looking good, I expect them to beat the Argies (just) and the Irish (just) but for the Argies to edge out the Irish for second place.

Well, I certainly hope the AB's - and the press pack - are going to avoid whinging about the refs. Perhaps I'm a bit of a reactionary on that score, but I think there's a time and a place to raise any issues you have with the call. Squealing like a stick pig in a presser isn't it. Here's a nutty notion: You lose because the other team scored more points, and not because the ref is a spiteful loon on day release from the Blind Institute.

  • Paul Rowe,

I make about six interesting games in the group stages, unfortunately three are in the France/Argentina/Ireland group (go the Argies).

    Scotland v Italy
    England v SA
    Wales v Australia

Would like to think Samoa could knock over the Poms & Fiji could beat the Welsh, but I wouldn't bet the house on it.

It's a stretch but on the day of the final, A Rush & A Push & the Land (Cup) Is Ours (enough of the Smiths, pleeeese!)
