Fantastic and important images, Adrienne. Thank you for sharing them.

The damage to everyday life is what has affected me most strongly. Christchurch has always been an uncanny, hauntological kind of place, but the earthquakes have rendered the familiar increasingly strange. Here's an image of a classroom block at Heaton Intermediate School, near where we live. The lateral spread of the ground has stretched the building beyond endurance.

Also, I imagine there are people quoting dialogue from the likes of Superbad, Knocked Up, The Hangover.
Oh, go on then.
"Not you, fat Jesus."
It's hardly Casablanca, though.

I think you're right; the great writers have moved from the movies to cable TV; the eminently quotable 'Deadwood' being a case in point. From the mighty David Milch, delivered by Ian McShane as the equally mighty Al Swearengen: "In life you have to do a lot of things you don't fucking want to do. Many times, that's what the fuck life is... one vile fucking task after another."
Not many better quotes than that one.

For me, it's got to be Whimsicle Fuckery. Via Regretsy

This week I made a long black and the blotch on the crema was in the shape of New Zealand. I should have taken a photo.
Incidences of rock-and-roll induced pareidolia seem to be hotting up. In the past few months I have seen John Lennon on the washing line (or possibly Leonard Cohen), and Johnny Cash in a corn fritter.

Not fancying the false teeth or a replay of the swimming pool scene from Caddy Shack in the stream at the end of our garden, I clicked the link and made a submission opposing the CCC's application. Can't say it was a literary masterpiece but hopefully it will add weight to numbers. Thanks for drawing attention to the situation David.
