Genuine question (for the sponsor's product), is it ever served other than at weddings and work functions?

I've actually never seen anyone buy it in a supermarket.

  • Hard News: Everybody has one, in reply to Russell Brown,

Yes, I have often thought this about people in such roles. Is there actually time to experience the world and understand it if you're constantly hurrying from one studio to the next? Or do you just end up becoming a 'braindead megaphone' because how can someone being drained of that much opinion possibly be always sincere about what they say, if a few hours later they have to churn out more opinion?

  • Access: Geoblocking, global mode and NZ…,

Part of the problem is the way media has been distributed in New Zealand (as opposed to, say, the U.S.). For example, in NZ, Sky acts for the most part as content creator and distributor. If you want ESPN there's no other distributor to provide that. Whereas, in the U.S. your local cable company (Comcast, Time Warner, etc) also competes with AT&T's U-Verse as well as Dish TV and DirectTV. They all offer the same channels, for the most part. It's by no means a good system (and each is loathed in its own way) but I wonder if Sky might start, one day, distributing Lightbox Sports or whatever and become a distributor in addition to a content provider (Sky Sports 1, etc). They already distribute Heartland which is made by TVNZ and Julie Christie, I believe, also owned two channels they also distributed? Vodafone on-sell Sky and there's no reason (other than it being a rival Telco that owns Lightbox) that they don't also, one day, sell a bundle with Lightbox as well as Netflix and Sky?

  • Hard News: Christchurch: Is "quite good"…,

I definitely agree that Dunedin got taken for a ride in building the indoor stadium.

When considering Christchurch it's important to note the council will receive about $140 million in insurance payments from AMI Stadium's insurers.

And Christchurch has a much larger population.

My feeling is that if Chch is going to do this then do it properly. Eden Park, for example, suits neither cricket nor soccer / league / rugby and it can't have concerts (or anything with much noise).

I wonder, for example, if the convention centre can't in some way be included in the stadium and thus reduce costs for each?

I do, however, completely understand that spending so much money on something that will be used for its primary use maybe 15 or 20 times a year and then only at full capacity two or three times is a hard sell especially when that money could be used more efficiently eleswhere.
