.....once again the poor and vunerable suffer because a wealthy first world country's elite thinks its ok to house them in substandard accomodation.....safe housing is a right not a privilege

  • Hard News: Helen,

Helen Kelly represented hope for low paid workers in NZ....I was a unionist all my working life and experienced the gutting of workers pay and conditions after the Employment Contracts Act was passed in the early 90,s........we are still suffering its effects today.........Helen carried on fighting the awful imbalance that exists in NZ's economy, god she,ll be missed ......as for National M.P's platitudes....I wish they,d just butt out.

  • Hard News: Ali, in reply to Russell Brown,

...no problems with the school, we were all regarded as freezing work fodder anyway [altho I did manage some tertiary studies later on ]...a couple of my mates got zero...later they expressed their disappointment with this result as one had spelt his name correctly ,and the other one said he should have got 1 for neatness.! ...it must have been a delayed broadcast, but what the hell it was still worth the effort.....I think I may have watched Princess Anne's wedding under the influence of LSD.......Captain Mark Philips still freaks me out a bit....

  • Hard News: Ali,

On the 22nd November 1965 a group of us left our 3 hour School Certificate maths exam after 20 minutes [you couldn't leave any earlier] and raced to the main street and the Farmers front window and watched Ali fight Floyd Patterson......live on T.V!
.......my mark for the exam was 11/100......but hey well worth it,his influence on us kids in that small S.I town was huge.......a black man who didn't take any shit, and our racist fathers couldn't stand him.......double whammy!

  • Hard News: How the years flew by ...,

Safe and warm housing for all should be a right, not something that is left to the mercy of the market. My folks were poor, we lived in a State house until they saved a bit of a deposit to build, with the help of a low interest loan fixed for 25years from the government.....somehow we need to change the narrative away from poverty and the gap between the rich and the poor and concentrate on "excessive wealth"....i.e tax these people, make them pay their fair share and use it to build social and low cost housing in Auckland......we spent 2 billion on fast broadband,we spent 1.5 billion on tunnels to Pt Chev, and billions more on roads of" national significance"....if we had spent that on housing maybe 12 kids a year wouldn't be dying in Auckland from illnesses related to crap accomodation.......but hey it must be their fault or their parents fault for making poor choices eh ????

  • Hard News: Friday Music: Making the…,

I was a teenager in the 60's ,living in a small country town.....there wasn"t any scene just boredom... and a love of anything that sounded new, like when I heard the lead break in "Green Onions "by Booker T and the MGS,and English R@B....black mans music at breakneck speed....it was so hormone driven,I nearly lost the plot when I heard the Pretty Things...Im A Road Runner Honey on a Mk 1 Zephyrs car radio......shifted to Dunners discovered LSD and Jimi Hendrix ,MC5,Blue Cheer.....then discovered pot[ Dunedin was arse about face with its drug introduction schedule] and entered a very strange prog rock phase that was hard to shake......punk scared the living daylights out of me when I saw 999 perform at my local in London in 1977........It took me quite awhile to recover.......

  • Hard News: Fix up, young men,

..went to a Bob Marley gig in London in 1977,spliffs the size of my arm were circulating [Im a small guy]…….the vibe was very mellow man…..despite being frisked by the biggest West Indian security guard in the world on the way in..because the night before a young man stabbed another young man to death near the stage……
….out of it young men are a menace….I hated being a teenager in the 60's,misogyny and bullying weren't mentioned at all then….they were a way of life…..that women and small guys endured……..
