national.org.nz/toddbarclay has him as Deputy Chair, Law and Order Select Committee but parliament.nz does not. I guess the latter is correct - in more than one way - but now I am wondering when the "correction" happened.

Hard News: Up with the Pacer: embracing…, in reply to
But can I ask why you did that?
Old age and traffic terror first inspired my craven limit of 25kph. Since then it appears that higher speeds, when safe, suck too much power unless gravity provides. In which case, the cut-off doesn't actually *stop* me going fast :)
-
there's not a limiter that drops the assist at 25 km/h
My e-urban has this option in setup mode. First thing I did was reduce the cutout speed to 25kph (it was 30-something on delivery). Read the manual?

Polity: Why did the TPP fail?, in reply to
TPP now has so little to do with free trade that the vector should be almost vertical. This diversion was mostly the work of US and Japan and NZ would have done better to keep them out in the first place. Free trade with SIngapore and some others would have been worth something to NZ but that advantage was squandered in pursuit of the delusion that great trade powers would play nice. I see NZ is offering its trade negotiation "expertise" to the UK for Brexit. The Brits should pass on that.

You have said it better than I was about to. Thanks!

Legal Beagle: Crowdsourcing Project Cortex, in reply to
Agreed. My thought was that it pointed to quite a lot of non-spooky stuff to do.

Legal Beagle: Crowdsourcing Project Cortex, in reply to
I think Ben is right and there are no keys under this lamp post. Now, I don't plan on reading the entire NZISM but it looks perfectly genuine. That, and Cortex, seem likely to serve NZ cyber security as touted.
The task of developing+documenting security policy is significant in itself. Far larger is the worthy effort to implement, maintain, monitor, audit all of that. I can't tell you how much is done by GCSB staff but there must be some number working on it. Quite a few honest workers but nothing nefarious to see here, move along please.
Anyway, it is often supposed that any dragnet surveillance is outsourced offshore. Most Kiwi traffic of interest goes offshore and not much is lost by playing nice locally. Only a small minority of insiders (possibly not GCSB) need have access to, or knowledge of, the dark side.
Which leads to two sets of staff - a bit like the two sets of books of Enron, Lehman et al. The innocents can readily be wheeled out to courtrooms, inquiries, whatever and swear solemnly. I might even believe that Una Jagose is one of them.

Well, it has been interesting looking. Who knew there is a website called protectivesecurity.govt.nz ? There is a search box there that does not know about "cortex". There is a 562 page Information Security Manual there. All quite "open" really if probably outdated already. You are in a maze of twisty little passages...

Orcon (ISP) have wonderfully vague T&C including this labile (sic) one:
13.6 We may appoint subcontractors to discharge any of our obligations under our Terms and Conditions
provided that we will at all times remain primarily labile to you for those subcontractors’ acts and omissions. As a matter of fact, Orcon does virus screening for emails and their wide-ranging definition of network "abuse" by customers would imply a wide-ranging monitoring ability to detect and trace that.

IRD T&C and Privacy Policy seem quite clear and I could not see anything like this. T&C cover:
www.ird.govt.nz
www.kiwisaver.govt.nz
www.whatstax.govt.nz
