Robyn, I was just thinking the same thing. On the one hand the MSM is 'relevant'. On the other it's totally banal and boring a lot of the time because of the very insistence on relevance. It's one-size-fits-all. The small shop tailors to a small clientèle. But there are a lot of small shops, so it would be wrong to suggest they have no impact. En masse, they have a huge effect on the goods available, and shopping trends. For many items, they are the only way you can get them.
For so long before blogs I felt like I was eating the McDonalds of news. Now I can do a cafe crawl every morning, and sample sweet PA, bitter Farrar, hard hitting Savant,bumout Frog or even sordid Wishart if I'm bored, and a thousand other blends. Sometimes my own particular tastes might even find their way into the food. You could never say that of drinking at Starbucks, no matter how much milk they pour through their unfortunate customers.

Simon Wilson is likely correct when he said that the furious debates in the blogosphere likely will have zero impact on the election's outcome.
I agree only to the extent that the blogosphere will probably not influence 'the people' directly. But it's influence seems to be mainly on the MSM. As in, everyone wonky reads it. It's a really cheap, really massive focus group.

Another really good episode. Could see the sweat on all of you, but really it seemed to me like that just meant you were all warmed up already, cause it just flowed nicely. Either that or the editors deserve to be hooking into Russ's grog cabinet this week.

Sometimes diddums does actually neatly convey the point. It's sneering, sure. Which is all some bleating sooky points deserve.

I was thinking more of how embarrasing it is watching alleged adults use the word "diddums" unless they're ticking a baby's tummy.
I think that's the point of the word. It means 'stop being a baby'.

Haven't u folk heard of timeshifting? I can't bear to watch TV any other way now...it's really quite pleasant to watch only the 40 mins of TV every hour that is actually the show.

Yes, undies or togs? I'm often surprised when I see full grown men wearing tank tops and underpants made from sheer lycra walking into my local dairy. Then I see the bike hat and all is forgiven. And I get a lot of stares and smirks from my choice of swimwear - speedos. I only wear them because I actually like swimming as opposed to wallowing.

If I'm having a conversation with someone, I'd prefer they looked at my face, whether or not I'm breast-feeding.
Maybe people find it hard to believe I'm actually looking at the baby.

I don’t see the point of the legislation.
Neither can I except in so far as it explicitly removes a right, which is slightly more far reaching than 'contracting out of the right'. I guess it's aimed at workplaces which haven't yet bothered with a code of conduct, so their right to spy is ambiguous. Now it isn't. Hooray.

If they detach from the group to do it, respect their privacy, if they don't, respect their 'still being a personness'.
It's not the respecting I'm asking about. That is given. It's the 'what does that mean' bit - what is respectful and what isn't? In some cases I get more of an impression that I'm the one that's meant to detach (which I do).
It doesn't put me off my lunch to see a baby getting their lunch. I take a lot of interest in babies eating, which is part of the problem - I guess I'm not meant to take an interest in babies eating that way.
