I doubt the Democrats need a plausible new policy for Iraq - I think the President will veto every bill they try and pass, so all their legislation needs to do is SOUND good.
I also doubt the various insurgents in Iraq are even aware there were mid-terms in the United States. They're a little preoccupied kidnapping their Shia neighbours and torturing hem with electric drills while avoiding US airstrikes. I can't imagine the prospect of Pelosi replacing Hastert is going to make any difference to their current policy of abduct-torture-murder-repeat.
I love James' argument that the Republicans were doing such a GREAT job over in Iraq and the Democrats are going to mess all that up and embolden the terrorists. If you had a tribe of Madagascar apes throwing their dung at a huge map of the Middle East they'd formulate a more sophisticated strategy for victory than the current plan (or absence of one).
If I were an informed insurgent - or a member of Irans Council of Guardians - I'd be slightly concerned that a few of the astoundingly stupid people deciding US foreign policy had been replaced with unknowns who might not be so crippled by hubris and ignorance. I would, however, be profoundly reassured by the continuing presence of the President, the Vice President, Sec of Defense ect.

Wow. More LGF comments:
expect the next attack
this will be a big one with many casualties
which is why I moved the family away from the city
I am retiring and never setting foot in DC againtoo damn dangerous now
only good news from it is President Pelosi will have to deal with a whole order of magnitude more casualties than Katrina
and
there's going to be American blood on the asphalt soon because of tonight
Well, America will get what it has coming - more terrorist attacks
I only hope I wake up to Washington a glowing hole in the morning.
We just need to weather the nuclear attack when it happens and we will be okay. Let the military take over. I advocate a military coup.
his has been one of the worst nights in this countries history. I am watching the death of America.
I'm sorry everyone. Tonight may be one of the worst nights of my life. I can't believe how depressed I am. I know that by writing this you can't see how I am here. I'm sobbing in pain and anger and frustration. I don't know what to do. This is one night when I wish I wasn't here alone in my apartment. This is one night I wish I had a friend who's shoulder I can cry on. I am so mad. I hate this world. I hate myself because I got so invested in a bunch of losers. I thought it meant something. I'm so sorry. You are all really smart, good people. Take care. I need to go to bed.
That last one really puts a smile on my face.

Nancy Pelosi is speaker of the House! What if she forces normal god-fearing Americans to marry gays? What if she starts handing out condoms, ball gags and capsules of amyl nitrate in public schools? What if she gets menstrual blood all over some crucial piece of legislation? What if she disbands the CIA and turns all their secret files over to Michael Moore? What if she dissolves the US government and declares Kim Jong Il dictator for life?
Dark days ahead for America . . .

It looks as if the Reps will hold Tennessee and Virginia, and thus the Senate.

I suggest that there hasn't been another attack because Al Qaeda doesn't really have a reason to attack the US mainland. It's risky and expensive and they can achieve their goals more readily by killing Shia muslims and US soldiers in Iraq, or infidels in Saudia Arabia, or tourists in Egypt. Most Al Qaeda members are from those last two countries and that is where their ambitions lie - the US doesn't concern Al Qaeda very much, except as a powerful ally of the 'pagan' governments in Cairo and Riyadh.
The CIA did find evidence that another terror plot was in the works back in early 2003 - poison gas attacks on metropolitan subways. Zawahiri called it off a month before execution and they haven't gone near the US since - presumably because 9/11 achieved their goal of engaging 'the far enemy'.

Early exits:
Casey 61 - Santorum 38
Cardin 51 - Steele 48
McCaskill 53 - Talent 46
Webb 55 - Allen 45
Maybe I'm too hard on the Dems - even if all they accomplish is removing Rick Santorum from office they'll still have made the world a better place . . .

Military, political, diplomacy, economics, intelligence (yes, water boarding), and law enforcement. The fact is that the US hasn't been hit again after 9/11 and that is not an accident.
Homer: Not a bear in sight. The "Bear Patrol" is working like a charm!
Lisa: That's specious reasoning, Dad.
Homer: [uncomprehendingly] Thanks, honey.
Lisa: By your logic, I could claim that this rock keeps tigers away.
Homer: Hmm. How does it work?
Lisa: It doesn't work. (pause) It's just a stupid rock!
Homer: Uh-huh.
Lisa: But I don't see any tigers around, do you?
Homer: (pause) Lisa, I want to buy your rock. -
The Dems are against the NSA listening in on calls that suspected terrorists make from outside the US to phone numbers in the US. So if an Al Qaeda guy is caught in Pakistan, and his address book or laptop is catured with a bunch of phone numbers, Pelosi does not want to allow the NSA to listen in on any calls made to those numbers. Isn't that just nuts?
What's nuts is that you believe this nonsense. Can you provide a SINGLE quote from Pelosi proving that she doesn't want the NSA listening to Al Qaeda's phone calls?
What I imagine Pelosi is in favour of is that the government obey it's own laws and require the intelligence community to obtain a warrant from a FISA judge if they violate a US citizens constitutional right to privacy.
When the democrats are campaigning on a platform of getting vast government bureaucracies OUT of peoples lives you know there's something fundamentally wrong in the US.

Specifically? I think my point is pretty obvious, but just to spell it out:
First you argue that Nancy Pelosi will make it 'easier for terrorists to attack America' (I hear she also plans to drown puppies and poison wells).
Well, Osama, Al Zawaheri, Kim Jong Il, Armdinajad the head hackers in Iraq and various other assorted despots will be happy campers indeed if Nancy is the new Speaker. . . in the next terrorist attack that she would make much easier for terrorists to successfully launch , if she got her way.
Then - on the subject of President Bush's accountabilty for the 9/11 attacks you wrote:
I see loony tunes exists in NZ as well as San Fran. Do you seriously think that any American would have allowed the 9/11 attacks to occur? I mean seriously?! To describe such views as "silly", is an insult to "silly'.
How silly.
Don't you see the comic juxtaposition there? Maybe you don't.
