Evenin' all. From this morning's Guardian Viral Video Chart, please see the following video so you will understand why your own children are far less cool than this nappy-clad Brazilian samba-shimmying tot.

Maybe they're taking a leaf out of NZ Cricket's wildly successful 'play nothing released after 1990' policy at internationals.

  • OnPoint: Tax cut zombies,

Perhaps the Dompost editorial staff think they have a really, really expensive cat. Like, one that's 666.67 times more valuable than the Six Million Dollar Man.

I'm glad this thread has confirmed that it's not just me who's been a bit worried about where Campbell Live's been heading lately. Having been away from NZ for a couple of years and then returning to watch the programme again for most of 2009 I had to ask 'Hey John, where did the politics go? You know, the stuff you were actually pretty good at?' It must surely be a concern to him, knowing that there's not really anything else on the mainstream FTA networks that come close to maintaining a sensible approach to serious political issue reporting.

  • Hard News: It was 20 years ago tomorrow ...,

1989 wasn't a high point in NZ music by any means, but Urlich's Safety In Numbers was a perfectly reasonable and inoffensive pop album of the time. Dated, sure, but wasn't the point that people were pleased that a NZ pop singer of any description could get radio play and do fairly well in Australia?

Most Promising Group at the NZMA 1989: The Front Lawn. So at least they had some songwriting cred in the mix.

  • Hard News: Smack to the Future,

Isn't the most efficient response the Government could take to the referendum result simply to issue a press statement saying, "It isn't. Move on"?

  • Island Life: Bye, bye, you peculiar guy.,

I like the condolence message photo: the mis-spelling of 'Michael' places it securely in the NZ context of widespread functional illiteracy.

Can only admit to knowing and liking Yes' I've Seen All Good People / Your Move because Cameron Crowe included it on the Almost Famous soundtrack. It's a beautiful thing, no matter the provenance.

  • Hard News: What to Do?,

Not after it's been accepted and published, I shouldn't think. However, there's probably leeway before the Clerk accepts it to negotiate with the petitioner if there's doubt as to the meaning of the question. Not in this case though. We've just got campaigners who want the rest of the country to endorse their erroneous belief that smacking is 'good parental correction' or that doing so will have you up on assault charges.

  • Hard News: What to Do?,

At the risk of providing needless gender-related detail, the current Clerk, Mary Harris, took over from the long-standing former Clerk, David McGee, after he left the office in November 2007 to become an Ombudsman. Both have/had plenty of good counsel.
