Hi Damian thanks for slagging off us Wellingtonians. Appreciate that.
In all my time working behind bars the types that I found who were looking for freebies were professional freeloaders, pure and simple.
Some in the media, some in politics, some in sports but all of them with the blood-red nose of a professional boozehound.PJ O'Rourke does this shit funny. You, not so much.

interesting post - are you off your meds?

My favourite Burchill line -
"A good part -- and definitely the most fun part -- of being a feminist is about frightening men."

DeepRed - those individuals you mentioned were exercising their rights to an open - carry law in their state
The opposite of concealed-carry if that doesn't sound too dumb an explanation.
While it may be legal in that state it is counterproductive to attend a speech by the US president with an AR-15 slung over one shoulder just because one can. It's the S/ Service I feel sorry for what with so many nutcases about.
As for calling Key "Fuhrer" - epic fail of Godwin proportions
The reason Ctizen Initiated referenda are non-binding is, unfortunately, a great deal of our citizens exhibit epsilon-level behaviour, bless their cotton socks.

I can do most of these things and am far more impressed by the urbane addendum of Tom Beard's.
As a Wellingtonian I would add the following for a post earthquake situation - and this is for femmes and hommes:-
Have an eq kit,
Have an agreed rendezvous point and plan for one's loved ones
and, ideally, own a trailbike.. -
Having seen the online version of that Sunday screening I think that this is going to be another moment in a government's history where someone puts the suffix "gate" onto it.
From my sources I know that there was an affair.
McCauley's sister alleges as much too.
Prurience aside that means that Rankin has lied.
How long that takes to hit the MSM or if it ever does is conjecture but I think that this story could end up like Clark's speeding motorcade and picture non-signing. -
In terms of interpreting the family's wishes there was a disconnect between the mates and co-workers wanting a celebration and the family came in and said no to that then held a rather severe and dour sevice.
What I was trying to say is that it appears that the family do NOT want any more publicity regarding her death.
Sorry if that wasn't clear earlier. -
I gather that McCauley's family didn't want any publicity at all - The Tommy's crowd and her mates wanted the ceremony to be a celebration of her life but the family came in and held a straight church service.

Up in the circle at the Welly gig I jumped straight out of my alotted seat to the wall directly behind it - I got in no-one's way and my honey joined me too. MUCH better and while there may've been plenty of fellow wrinklies it was a nice change from the last gig* before that to not have ya water bottles confiscated..
