  • Field Theory: American Gods,

Oi! You take that back, sir! Cricket is not a waste of time. The life that goes on in between cricket matches, now that's a waste of time.

    Ain't that the truth.

    I shan't post the lyrics.

    Why ever not?

Man, I go away for a couple of hours, and you people are all interesting...

A man who is passionate about something and articulate about sharing that passion is remarkably sexy though. I don't have to share his passion (yet) so long as I can see how one might get to love that thing.

There is nothing I love more than someone who cares about something. Could be beer, could be, like, rally car driving.

(it's probably not rally car driving)

But yeah, people who are passionate about things, and enthuse: Hot.

So, to summarise your suggestions: no matter what men wear, women find muscly bad boys attractive

    Well....not exclusively.

We did try to work out why not all stripy shirts make for a Stripy Shirt, and why it's so easy to spot Stripy Shirts even when they're not wearing stripy shirts. But we were drunk.

We were? Speak for yourself. Jack, where are you? Did I, or did I not, fulfill my responsibility of being slightly sober when you arrived??

But yes. When I last went out drinking in Christchurch, with relatives, I did spend a good amount of time, in my head, counting the stripy shirts among their friends. It was a disturbingly high ratio.

Ickyest guy I ever tangled with used to bathe in Jazz. I'm pretty sure these days he will have moved on to Lynx and is probably trying to pick up chicks at least 25 years younger than him.

Eeeew. This reminds me of being at Boogie Wonderland at about 3am on a Sunday morning.

In my defence I was walking through from Alice to get a taxi home. Not actually IN Boogie Wonderland. And on the dancefloor were all the drunk young girls you could shake a stick at, and surrounding the dancefloor was about 10 men, in their 40s, or older, nursing a beer, wearing bad leather jackets. I'm sure they would have reeked of Lynx, if I had gotten close enough.

What I said to them may not have been my proudest moment. But, God, at least be a little subtle in your perving.

That is completely unfair. They didn't have Lynx back then.

    Old Spice? Brut?

    Ooooo, I know. Jazz.

Actually, Jazz? Totally the scent of several stripy shirts of my ...acquaintance.

  • Field Theory: In the middle of the night,

Some of my fondest memories of my father are from being woken to watch the FA Cup final with him - a ritual beginning with Keegan and Toshack's Liverpool beating Newcastle 3-0 in the early 70's

Same. We used to always go to a family friend's house and watch it with bacon and eggs. I remember it always being sunny at their house.

But then, Dad was a sports tragic - I can recall him wiring the entire outside of the house so that he (being a good Boyo) could pick-up distant live radio coverage of the 5 Nations games featuring Wales during their 70's glory years of JPR Williams, Barry John etc.

Again, same. My Dad and I share a birthday, and the thing he most remembers about my birth, is that he wasn't allowed to take the 'trannie' into the delivery room to listen to the cricket. I'm sure my Mum was delighted.

Of course, I can't talk, cos I just spent 10 minutes on Cricinfo, figuring out what game it would have been. I mean, if we were playing Australia....

Meh, there's no such thing as a Man U (or a Chelsea) supporter because they're not proper teams, even people in Manchester and London think that.

Hey! I take umbrage at that. You leave my (adopted for extremely spurious reasons) team alone!

She can't be a superhero, she doesn't have a cape.

Oh, I wouldn't rule that out.
