Hard News: Dirty Politics, in reply to
I thought worth posting here as this thread will be a great resource for future historians of the dirty politics saga. It has a way to go yet.

Interesting that one of our best investigative journalists has now gone to the dark side as PR for the government in Paula Bennett's office.

Another chapter in the Dirty Politics saga. TV3's The Nation on a paid-to-hack-by Whaleoil story. Producer Tim Watkin explains and link to report http://pundit.co.nz/blogs/tim-watkin

I quite like the idea that he is the first generation of NZers happily reared by two mothers (both teachers too I hear). He's a Scots College /Wellington High Boy and his wife is a from a well known local Wellington family. He's a real product of middle class Wellington Central. Not sure whether that is a positive or negative for the rest of the country though.

I have middle class privilege. I have secure housing (currently). Both my parents attended boarding school and university during the Depression and barely noticed it. We were all expected to get not only university qualifications, but post graduate ones. So having a child with an impairment who will not follow the family model is both challenging and beneficial for us all.

ATOS was a nightmare. Early on the Disabled People Against Cuts (DPAC) Facebook page started reporting horrific stories. The programme was inappropriate in every possible way such as the tick box form which took no account of mental health or any other assessment such as the person's local GP. The review panels were soon completely overwhelmed. There was even a protest by the Paralympians at the London Paralympics. Why anyone would think such a plan would be effective is beyond belief. Several deaths were recorded.

The white middle-aged middle-class non-disabled employed man is the norm against which all other people are measured. It is surprising how few of them recognise that, or realise that they are in reality such a small minority of humans.
