On a related note, I once went to the national university Blues dinner at Government House, 1995 I think, and was seated at a table with both Bernice Mene and Lesley Nicole (now Rumball). Bernice is indeed striking. Lesley Rumball is both striking and charming - she wasn't captain then but close to completing her medical degree and obvious a leader.
I've seen the Ferns play several times - including in Australia. They're a fantastic team.

Norma Plummer is a sour old trout, isn't she ? A real sore loser.
A "scrubber" perhaps?

I'm loving being a kiwi living in Sydney today! Loving it! What a classy bunch of remarkable athletes the Ferns are - the Diamonds too for that matter.

How is "fat slug" anything other than insulting?
Puckish? Give me a break! It's no more puckish and no less insulting than me saying something like "Laws just talks shit all the time because he has a mouth that looks like puckered arsehole". Which, funnily enough, is what I actually think.
I'm not apologising for it either - I said it just like Cheryl West would, so it's Kiwi as.
Where's the fb equivalent "like" function Russell?

There are a few short stations in the Sydney network as well. And at night they generally only allow access to four of the (typically) eight carriage trains on all stations.
SteveH, thanks I was wondering whether there were any in Sydney which are they though, I can't think of any on the lines I use?
The proposed 2030 map looks good too.
My general feeling on another Harbour Crossing is "what's the hurry?" Traffic flows across the Harbour Bridge have been steadily declining over the past 5 years as employmenr on the Shore grows and as more people choose to bus into town. Around 35% of people crossing the bridge at peak times are on a bus.
35% seems a really large number, is that with lots of park and ride support?

that is sad news
Terribly sad news, way to young.

I thought you were supposed to compare apples with oranges.
You could be right, it'd be easier to differentiate.
No. Why would it be?
Srsly, Australians are far more gauche; it's a true fact!

Graeme, isn't it galling that even Australians broadcasters appears more sensible, barely, than our mob?
Simple matter of fact that an endless stream of Labour politicians have been perfectly happy to go on Breakfast while Paul Henry's racism, misogyny and homophobia has flowed like a backed up urinal for years. OK, blah blah it's fucking different for everyone except John Key -- I get that you hate the man and I'm not exactly over-impressed with him myself.
Craig, I still think you're comparing apples and pears. It might be undesirable to go on breakfast TV with the major broadcaster but I accept that politicians feel they must. I said essentially this in my first post.
However, to not call him on being a racist when you're on air with him is wrong. I don't watch TVNZ often as I don't live in NZ. I don't know what Jacinta does, I gather it's a regular thing, but are you suggesting that she has ignored racist, sexist or homophobic comments by Henry in his interviews with her? If not, then I simply don't think the situations are comparable.
-
You know, Paul, if you want to go there - it should also have mattered to Jacinta Adern. It should have mattered to Phil Goff. It should have mattered to Helen Clark, and Trevor Mallard and Shane Jones and Darren Hughes and Russell Norman and Rodney Hide and every other fucking politician who has every been on that waste of space load of shit.
But it didn't.Craig, that's simply a false equivalence... Clark's comments on Henry have been documented earlier in this thread. I'm not at all sure what you think Jacinta's said other than on Twitter etc where she's been clear and unequivocal, Trevor too.
I might be missing your point but honestly, I think only Key's got this wrong and that's astounding for a PM.
This is a significant moment where his judgment has entirely failed him.

Other non-scientific polls (Herald, Stuff) have indicated between 33 to 40% think Henry did nothing wrong, but most people think he did. I think there could be an overlap, with a group of people thinking what he said was wrong, but not willing to say it was racist, because they may feel like that is too harsh.
Although I do understand the point of any discussion about the polls and what they might tell us about race relations - or at least the views of respondents - objectively, Paul Henry's comments are racist. He disaparaged people, several people in fact, on the basis of their race. He might want to argue he's not a racist (cue the Tui billboard) but I figure you are what you do.
So whether Pete of Papatoetoe or Helen of Hataitai agree or not doesn't matter to me. And... at the risk of getting all political again... neither should it matter to the bloody Prime Minister!
