and it drank like a Scotsman. Made a nice noise, though.
Och, as a man of (vaguely) Scots descent, I resemble that remark! (Except the nice noise bit - I have a face made for radio, a voice designed for journalism, and the handwriting of a doctor on P.)

I for one, did read the article, and as a result found myself having a meal consisting of fresh fish and lightly stir-fried veges followed by some very nice, very dark chocolate. I've never felt healthier...

That should be obvious even to an under-educated blutter like yourself - she's finally turned into an old fogey.

I have the first season of The Billy T James Show (the sitcom, not the variety show) on DVD (it was a gift). Its an interesting slice of history - Tom Scott & AK Grant on the scripts, slipping in some topical stuff & people who I now barely remember (Russell Rooster?).
Of course its no Melody Rules, but there's a definite cringe factor there - I know Illona Rogers has a big theatre background, but couldn't the director rein in her vocal projection just a bit? -
Heheh! Does anyone know of reputable studies that analyse bigotry in relation to gender? Not feminist theory necessarily, but rather something with a firm empirical basis.
My unscientific impression is that both genders can be equally bigotted and racist, but actual agro tends to come from the younger males (testosterone is a powerful master). Not to say that the prejudices inflicted by the women and older men aren't even more damaging (its not the 20 year old hooligans that don't hire folks of the wrong shade), but they don't make for good news footage.
The measure of a nation's racism is in how much it enables and/or encourages the bigots. Similar to the famous 'broken windows' theory, if political and opinion leaders and role models in general condone minor acts of bigotry, then major acts become more acceptable. -
Perhaps we could do a small amputation on all the little babies, and create a generation that will finally respect its elders.
I wonder if all the little Jewish & Moslem boys (& some Moslem girls) are more respectful of their elders than the non-amputated ones. That would be more than circumstantial evidence...

Now if only someone could come up with a solution to the EPG access problem, then us Skyless ones could get our own PVRs to play with.
I'm not geeky (or skilled) enough to do what one guy I know did and import a UK spec Tivo and hack together a script to harvest epg info from the various channels websites in the middle of the night.

And where are all the safricans on Shorty? A hospital without South Africans and Indians would be a very empty place.

I saw Public Enemy play the Electric Ballroom in Camden - a low-ceilinged basement venue, after they'd been banned from the Hammersmith Odeon in the midst of a media panic.
Was that the tour where Pop Will Eat Itself were opening for them, but most gigs got booed off for being white & using guitars?

What about the kitten?
Well, they've renamed it "Lucky" rather than "Street Pizza" so I think it'll be OK.
