Teina Pora has posted a short video message to Mark Weldon, asking him to reconsider the axing of 3D -- the programme which finally freed him from prison.

Speaker: Are we seeing the end of MSM,…, in reply to
News broke yesterday afternoon that Australian media mogul and climate change denier Rupert Murdoch has purchased a majority stake in National Geographic, a magazine and scientific organization that has been staunchly non-profit since its first issue in 1888.
Just a month after buying the business, Murdoch has laid off around 10% of the NatGeo existing staff. Slash and burn... slash and burn.

The text of the TPPA has finally been released, albeit as a large series of PDFs. Scroll to the bottom of that page to grab them all in one handy zip file.
Of course most of the text is meaningless without the background docs. Could someone remind me why they need to be kept secret for six years? The Washington Post has created a TPPA search tool which at least allows some drilling down through the masses of information.

Has anyone heard of this chap and has he had a presence in New Zealand before?
He seems to be a profuse poster on all matters related to tobacco. His LinkedIn profile claims he does "not work for big tobacco", has an "Uncompleted Ph.D" and worked as an "animal lab technician" for nine years. Sort of like working at Mickey D's but with rats.
Around 2002 he scores a role with the grandly-named Citizens Freedom Alliance. That organisation's rather homebuilt website provides this background.
Originally founded in 1994 as The Smoker's Club, Inc., is now the organization: Citizens Freedom Alliance and The Smoker's Club. It has evolved into the leading online Newsletter for Smokers Rights, Property Rights, and other issues.
So basically he's a pro-tobacco certified nutter.

It looks like 3D is definitely for the chop.
It is understood staff were told they had one week to come up with an alternative current affairs show.
A whole week. That's generous of Weldon and Christie.

The case has been moved to the High Court with pleas due in December. Virtually all the facts are still suppressed.

I think it might have been something to do with media over-kill and sycophantic politicians this time around.
Tremain - you're not the only one Geoff.
Nice piece Russell.

More panic at MediaWonks... 3D may be dropped... cooking show cancelled... moving right along folks... no quality TV here.

It seems the new-found austerity at MediaWonks isn’t being applied across the board. MediaWorks has bought “hundreds of bottles” of wine over the past year from… wait for it… Mark Weldon’s Terra Sancta winery. I guess that sort of expenditure is approved when the boss gets to clip the ticket.
The winery’s website explains its name: “It means ‘sacred earth’, or, in modern Kiwi, ‘special dirt’."
Special dirt… really? I thought that was something Glucina produced? Of course anyone with a basic knowledge of latin could tell you that it actually means "holy land".
